When Disney did their big mall tour like 18 months ago, they had Finding Nemo clips in HD, and claimed it would be coming to Blu-ray "soon".
IMHO, I think there's a bit of a tug-of-war at Disney over releasing Blu-rays quickly to capitalize on the burgeoning Blu market VS adhering to their antiquated "vault" philosophy of only releasing titles at a trickle. They probably want to move cautiously with Finding Nemo. It is their biggest money-making animated property, believe it or not. (The "Pirates" franchise is their biggest live action money-maker, and that was out on Blu ridiculously fast.) Last edited by Sylin; 06-21-2009 at 04:11 PM. |

Finding Nemo was a huge success, so naturally they're not going to just slap it on a disc and sell it. They will make an effort here. |

There's still a backlog for vault masterings, and only a certain amount of back-catalog titles are allowed to push their way to the remastering labs past the "money" New titles. Which is why only three or so are announced every month, and well in advance. |

Money, the same reason Lucas isn't releasing his Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, the same reason they are releasing the theatrical version only of Lord of the Rings then will likely release the extended edition for a year. The same reason Speilberg only released two of his movies (Close encounters and the "new" indiana jones), but doesn't seem to have any plans to release his movies, yet he calls himself a Blu ray supporter. They are just trying to wait for the opportunity to make as much money as they can for their movies, not to appeal to fans demands. I can guarantee you they have the transfers for the movies all ready to be put on a disc with special features, it is all just marketing.

Disney as a company are in a league of their own. From their theme parks to merchandise and DVD/Blu-ray release. They are VERY methodical. They create demand for their product by not giving it to us. When something goes in the vault, it goes in the vault. They maximize profit by decreasing availability, kind of what the Wii people did
