Default How about Criterion Collection Transformers the movie

I think Criterion should look into who has the rights to the 1986 Transformers the movie and release that with the possibility of some extra footage? This would be a real treat!!

Criterion's mission statement:

Since 1984, the Criterion Collection, a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films, has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. Over the years, as we moved from laserdisc to DVD, Blu-ray disc, and online streaming, we’ve seen a lot of things change, but one thing has remained constant: our commitment to publishing the defining moments of cinema for a wider and wider audience. http://www.criterion.com/about_us

So, ummm, what part of that does Transformers the cartoon fit into?

First of all it was an iconic part of the 80's cartoon era that obviously some people still love to this day. Or the live movies wouldn't have grossed a combined $1 bill. worldwide so why not give its rightfull place as a criterion collection this movie was loved worlwide and is still talked about in recent threads.

....or you can just buy the region free UK release of it and call it day.

Because I don't think the Criterion does movies that are already out on blu.

It's out of print, and quite expensive on the secondary market.

I'm not familiar with the Criterion process for selection, but if we were looking at groundbreaking and historically significant films, shouldn't they have selected Space Odyssey or Star Wars?

While Criterion may WANT to release Star Wars, there's no way George Lucas would allow anyone but himself to supervise the transfer of his intellectual property to blu-ray.

Hmm, guess that's true....I suppose I lucked up then b/c I had my copy for over a year now (got it off Ebay).

Matter of fact, it's the only Transformer movie I wanted to own (not into live-action ones...). So I'm content with what I spent to get it.

Lucasfilm would do a better job on Star Wars than Criterion could. For a start the supplemental material comes from Lucasfilm to begin with.

Well if that's the case then why the hell haven't they picked up Scarface yet?? It may have been controversial for it's time but it did point a time in history where may Cubans fled Castro's dictatorship and it hit on the drug cartel times of the 80s.

Or maybe I'm just mad 'cuz I really wanna see somebody put freakin' Scarface on blu. What the hell is taking Universal so long anyway???

I could see them doing the original Scarface..... But I don't see them getting the rights to the remake.

As far as I know, Criterion is involved in restoring and presenting film as art..... and I don't believe they have done a full-length animated feature.....
