Will The Simpsons have a home on Blu-ray?

I'm just wondering if anybody out there with some knowledge on the history of animation and how animation is created, can tell me whether the state in which The Simpsons was created at the very beginning would mean the show could be re-mastered in high definition for Blu-ray?

Was the animation film based back then? which might means a high resolution master? Or am i completely off base?

I don't know much on the subject of film, HD cameras etc, but i imagine that it might not be possible for episodes of the simpsons from the earlier years to be put into HD, and DVD is in fact the best these will ever look.

Can anyone correct me if i'm wrong, or shed a little light on the possibility?
