Default Give me a reason to upgrade my TV

So I have a 52inch Samsung LN52A650. I love it to death PQ the specs are 120hz, 1080p , LCD, and I have no home theater. I came into some extra money and I'm thinking about upgrading to a 60inch. I remember the first HDTV I bought was fun but this time I feel like I'm blowing 2700.00 for not much more. I have no interest in 3D and smart features don't really impress me. Can you guys convince me on why I should buy a new TV?

I'm not sure why you (or others that have in the past) need us to try to convince you to do something. you have a couple of options, if your happy with your current tv then stick with it. If your not then buy a new one. if you just might want to waste some money (you mentioned 2700) then go ahead if you feel you need to do it; if you think it's a waste then don't do it.

see, real simple.

don't worry, i'm sure there will be plenty of folks pouring out their hearts as to which set you should buy and why as well as the reasoning you should spend the money. just give them some time......

best of luck whatever you choose to do.

I guess what I was wondering is there any big difference to upgrade is there a feature I'm missing that makes TV a must buy right now.

I have the LN52A750 & love it and wouldn't get rid of it for nothing. It has a Beautiful picture.

My suggestion would be spend the money on a sound system & make your movie experience 10 times better then it is with just a TV

Just my 2 cts.

Agreed.

If you are just watching movie through the speakers on the TV you need to get sound system. It will make movies much more enjoyable.

If you love the picture on your TV wait, personally if would get a some external speakers!

Check out Paradigm or this Paradigm set. B&W also make great speakers. But to do this you will also have to budget for a receiver.

Everyone needs a better TV! Is that convincing enough for ya?

I you don't have a proper surround sound system though, I'd recommend getting one of those set up in your HT viewing area before going for a new TV. Seems like your TV will be good for a few more years at 52"... unless you care about getting 3D in your home. That's the only real added feature to TVs that should be incentive to upgrade your current model.

Ultimately, it's up to you though.

+1 Or if you got some money and a large enough room I would get some MartinLogan speakers, but honestly if you do go the speaker route go and test out as many speakers as you can, but we can recommend speakers all day long but at the end of the day it's mainly subjective and what ever sounds the best to you.

Perhaps a 5.1 speaker system if you have the room. At the minimum a pair of towers. Definitive Technolgy offers towers with built-in subwoofers. A center speaker would also be nice.

Here's a novel idea: Since you really don't "need" a new TV, and many of your past threads seem to imply that money is tight at times, why not simply stick the "found money" away into an emergency fund? Yeah, I know, that's not the "fun" thing to do around here, but with the economy ready to tank again and so much uncertainty these days, the smartest thing to do would be to hold-on to that $$ in case it's needed down the road.

Besides, 52" to 60" is not that big of a jump.

Or this

Or a bit of both as you can get a very decent 5.1 setup for a lot less than $2700 and keep the extra as safety funds.

I like this idea... $2700 is a good start to a nice little nest egg if things are tight for you. If you are happy with the quality of your current TV I don't see any point in moving up to 60".

It's a third larger in screen area, that's not a small change IMO.

If you don't have a good audio system, that would be my recommendation as well. Best of luck.

I agree with this statement.....if you don't have a good surround sound system, you are missing out on half of the blu-ray experience! This would make the biggest impact and improvement with your movie experience IMO.

If there's nothing wrong with your tv, then don't buy another one. Instead, go buy a Onkyo 7.1 HTiB and save the rest for blu-rays.

I haven't heard them but from what I have heard about Definitive Technology speakers and based on those reviews. +1

I can understand that but when I say I'm tight it's because I have two types of funds savings and checking. I don't care how tight things are saving's is only extreme emergency. So when I say I'm tight it's because I don't count that money. This year so far has been good to me. I have a baby on the way and I found a new job earlier this year that is paying me more than the last. I started college in March and won a two year scholarship. At the same time I guess the money could go to savings because I do only have like $8000.00 well its really 12,000 but we had to put $4000 way for the wife's surgery and hospital stay when the baby comes (that's a lot and we have insurance kind of wish we lived in Canada). However, this was a month that 3 checks fell into so I have the extra money.

I know you were not attacking me and really think it was a good suggestion but life is good right now *Knock on wood*

Keep your TV. I'm still using a 47" and I'm perfectly happy with it. Spend up to $500-600 on an audio setup and sit on the rest. You will be more than happy with that scenario.
