Default BD.com Community Movie Club

I've seen this type of thread implemented on several sites before, and figured this would be a great community to do this type of event.

Each month we could dedicate that month to a certain movie and discuss within a thread. I find that it's extremely interesting if you get a number of people discussing a classic film within a short period of time. It's also great for expanding people's horizons on different films.

How do we select a film? Well for everyone that wants to participate for the month can do so by telling me. Anyone could nominate a movie and I'll select 5 randomly and we can vote on them in a poll.

If you guys want to do this more than once a month that's completely fine. I'm just using once a month as a starting point.

I also suggest for films we nominate ones that will spur discussion, so I'm leaning away from mindless popcorn movies unless a case could be made.

So who would like to participate?

I am in . Citizen Kane would make for a good discussion. Like an onion...the film has many layers.

Definitely in. There's a lot of good choices, Citizen Kane being one of them. I personally would like to see 12 Angry Men, Judgment at Nuremberg, or To Kill a Mockingbird as the first film.

Can't wait for it on blu!

I just got an autographed copy of Chris Bohjalian's "Midwives," which some critics have called a modern equivalent to Harper Lee's masterpiece (a book that is far from overrated, as some like to claim).

The Barnes and Noble right down the road from me always gets great authors. The DAY I moved down to Florida two years ago, one of my favorite authors--Daniel Silva (New York Times bestselling author each and every year) came to the store. He comes every year from and did so again last year. By far the best author I've personally seen speak live, and I've seen some good ones (including Serpico).

As for Midwives, I haven't read it yet and haven't read any by the author. When I was at B and N yesterday, I noticed that they had five different books autographed by the author and that Midwives was his most popular, so I bought it (last copy).

Tomorrow nite I'm going to see Alex Berenson speak and sign books there--he won the Edgar award for best first novel in 2007 and is becoming a major force in the thriller-spy genre.

Good to see people are interested. I'll let this thread run a couple of days until we get more support then I'll randomly select 5 people who can nominate a movie.
