Default In Theater Ratio call

So I saw Funny People today and immediately noticed the screen size and how it would play on my Blu-ray.

My question is, When you go to the theater, do you "size" up the screen to know what you will get when it comes on blu? I always do. Like today , not surprisingly, Apatows are always 1.85:1

Colloquial for: can you tell, and then do you bother noticing what aspect ratio it is in. I notice, though I don't consciously pay attention to it.

I know this is a home theater enthusiast site where everyone has their own idiosyncracies but... wow.

In your other thread, you call it "ratio planning".

Query: What do you do differently when you watch a movie in 1.85:1 aspect ratio compared to a movie shot in 2.40:1 on your television at home?

Oh I see. It's easy to have an approximate idea of the ratio. If there are "black bars" on the sides at the theater then it's a 1.85:1 ratio, if it's full screen then it's 2.40:1 or something close.

I've never paid any attention to it while at the theater. I just enjoy the movie.

BTW, why 2 threads on the same topic?

To make the internet just a little more crowded.
