Default Lost: Season 1-5 with spoilers

If you have not watched seasons 1-5 of Lost this is not the thread you want. Move along.

Now that season 5 is over and only season 6 remains but we have a lot more to work with at this point it seems like some good analysis, or bad, of what this show is about should take place. There were so many complaints about mentioning things that occurred in various points of the show without using spoilers in the other threads I think we need a place to run free. I was hoping a more dedicated Lostaholic would start a spoiler thread but I can't wait forever. A lot of you have picked up S1 and S2 on blu and watched them completely, I have only made it as far as the premiere part 1. However I would like some good tips on things to watch for as I watch more of the show over the next few weeks and months.

As a simple example I noticed how in the first show Kate confesses to Jack she would get up and run when confronted with a situation like he described in his "deal with fear countdown" speech. It was an early tip off about her character which may turn out to be more significant as to why Jacob picked her for the O815 flight.

Open up and give us your best interpretations of what is going on and will happen, I mean whatever happened, happened; right? Oh and sorry about creating another Lost thread to all of you that try to keep up with all of them, none had spoil in the title however.

i was honestly AFRAID to click this thread, thinking there was a spoiler for next season lol

i tend to steer clear of Lost discussions. ppl like to theorize what is going to happen next, good for them for guessing...i can't recall reading a single post that came remotely close to their predictions.

i like to sit back and watch without trying to figure out what is going to happen next, that is too frustrating!

i'm curious to find out what the deal is with hurley and seeing dead ppl tho.

Ironically people complained about spoilers when just what has been shown months before is discussed. I don't think you can spoil the show even if JJ Abrams, Carlton Cuse, and Damon Lindelof posted spoilers, it wouldn't spoil the show since we still wouldn't know what it means! My season 7 reference is what comes after the series ends, hopefully a long a contracted discussion about what happened, probably the antithesis of "whatever happened, happened", we may never know if they play their cards right.

I have no idea what thread to post in anymore but i hope this doesn't mean anything bad for the last season. I couldn't imagine leaving one of the greatest shows ever right before the last season.

Comic book scribe turned screenwriter Brian K. Vaughan has certainly made his mark on the hit show Lost. But everything good must eventually come to an end. Lost producer Damon Lindelof has confirmed on the DocArzt & Friends Lost Podcast that Vaughan will not be returning for the sixth and final season of the series, and “has left for greener pastures.”

Vaughan has been with the show since mid-way through Season 3. His presence could be felt though the pop culture-infused dialogue (who would win in a race, superman or the flash? Hurley writing Empire Strikes Back. Hurley reading a foreign issue of Brian’s Y: The Last Man at the airport) and some of the series’ epic plot twists and cliffhangers. And while he wasn’t credited with a writing credit on my favorite episode of the series, and possibly of television ever, The Constant, his fingerprints can be felt all over it. Over the last two and a half years, Vaughan has produced 16 episodes, co-produced 13 more, written 7 teleplays and was credited as Executive Story Editor on another 10. For me the departure of Vaughan is huge, and it will be interesting to see how the final season progresses without him.

We’re not exactly sure where the “greener pastures” may be, but I’m assuming he’s gearing up to go full time writing some Hollywood films. His twist on the King Arthur legend Roundtable is setup at Dreamworks, Marvel is developing his comic Runwaways, Y: The Last Man is still in development but stalling over at New Line/Warner Bros, so maybe he’s going to ry to give that a kick start with a completely new draft. And his comic Ex Machina is in development over at BenderSpink. But my feeling is that Vaughan probably has some more original ideas he wants to get out, and maybe even move into producing some big screen productions.

This is all just my own speculation. Who knows, he could have a new comic book project in the works. Whatever it is, one would assume that it has to be big, or at least big enough to warrant leaving Lost in its final hours.

my theory on lost is that ben linus knew about everything from the time travel through the oceanic 6 leaving, and is just playing mind games with everyone

my hope though is that they drop the time travel and the show ends with sawyer killing ben linus and all the survivors leave the island but with the way the show is going now i think it will end with jack dying to save the island and kate sawyer etc. becoming the others

I definitely agree with the guy on slashpost about "The Constant" (presuming I know which episode that was) as being one of the best episodes of any TV series, ever. I wish I knew somebody that has seasons 1-5 so I could borrow them. I like the suggestion of trying to think of WHY they were selected to come to the island. I understand the possibility of Linus knowing what happened in the past, but he has no way of knowing what happens to himself and John (erm, well, you know) in the present. He was CLEARLY surprised that it wasn't really John (as I was.) I'm presuming that the person we've been seeing as Christian is also Jacob (I don't remember the name of the guy he was trying to kill.) There is still the question of WHY are they immortal? Also, is anyone else really immortal, or is (can't think of the name of the man who went to Locke and told him he would be special one day, the one that gave Locke the compass, the one we've seen multiple times at both time periods looking the same age, etc.) just Jacob/ the other guy's normal Island guise?

I get chills when I hear "ON YOUR SODDING FEET!!" you're just like whoa...what is going on??? if it wasn't so late i'd watch it again now! haha maybe tomorrow =D

The thread title should be changed, there won't be a seventh season of Lost as far as I know...

That was the point, I wanted to put the word spoil in the title so we could post whatever we wanted without concern if we are spoiling the show for people that have not watched it all so far. The season 7 is our dissection of the show, I don't think our questions will be fully answered and there will be a lot of questions about what different things really meant, etc. Such as the "whatever happened, happened" concept. I initially wanted answers to all the questions, but I feel somewhat differently now, if they do answer everything next season it is going to be a let down to me, just a series of episodes putting the pieces together.

Overall I am hoping people will post stuff about things they notice in the older episodes, little clues to look for, etc. The Dharma Shark has turned out to be nothing, maybe under control of the "Looking Glass" station or somewhere else as an example.

Cool. If you had done that with the other thread listed as S1 and S2 I wouldn't have started this one. I should have kept it simple, I am just a wise-donkey at times.

I noticed what appears to be a minor production glitch in the premiere part 2, or maybe it was the next show. There was a scene where Locke is carving a whistle to use to call Vincent, and Charlie walks up to sit down next to him. During this little part a small blue object, like a tarp appears in the bottom left corner. It really doesn't look intentional and probably was not visible in the original std def video. It is totally unimportant to the show, but I thought it was interesting that there was an editing glitch like that.

I am still intrigued by the way they shoot the movie with almost no people shadows showing. A lot of the scenes where the ground is shown at their feet they are standing or sitting in shadows, etc. and most of the time it is all face shots. I only noticed this since Faraday mentioned the scattered light on the island when he first arrived in '04 and the Shadow of the Statue people showed up, I am really beginning to think there is a hidden clue to that like they exist as spiritual beings when on the island. I am also still wondering why I got an extra 5-10 seconds of Juliette banging on the bomb after the season 5 closer finished and no one else on the forum seemed to see it. After reading that post about whether the bomb actually was set off or not, makes me wonder if it was actually part of the show and not a broadcast glitch in my area.

Uhh, I saw it, too. I keep saying to everyone "well, that season sure ended with a BANG, eh?" At least a hypothetical bang, anyway. Surely she managed to finally activate the bomb. Oh, and to be clear: "The Constant" is the episode where Desmond (I finally remembered *his* name) goes back and forth through time (mentally), and finally talks to Penny at the end? That's where I get choked up every time.

Oh, and to those that say "there will be no season 7", keep in mind that up until 75% of the way through season 5 there WAS TO BE NO SEASON 6. Actually, I didn't realize they had decided on a season 6 until I heard the final episode of Season 5 actually didn't wrap the story up....

What are you talking about?? At the end of season 3 the network said they would go to season 6. Just because you weren't sure till 75% of the way, doesn't magically mean its true.

Do you happen to live in the Atlanta area? If so then it was probably a local broadcast glitch, if not then it might have been intentional. I don't understand why people are so quick to believe the bomb was triggered and that was the incident. A plutonium bomb made back in the early 50s would probably be in the megaton range, the island would be a large hole in the water; unless the island's magic magnetic field somehow absorbs the explosion. I think the incident is just the fact that they drilled through the existing shielding around that "power source" by the Dharma drill crew.

Nope, I'm in the mid-Midwest. I'm really amazed that some people didn't see that part. They should make sure to watch it again online if they missed it. Although, I managed to miss the whole "eel" thing in Sarah Connor Chronicles (I had presumed it came out of the ship, not that she had a part of herself as a pet eel for whatever reason.)
Keep in mind how "mysterious" the island is. It *could* be that the reason why the island is constantly moving through periods of time/locations is BECAUSE of the atomic bomb cutting the cords on the fourth dimension. How that would help the Lost is beyond me....

Then I think what appeared to be an explosion was just another time jump, maybe the group from the real time will be sent back to current time, leaving the DI to finish building their project. That could mean Juliette was buried alive or is maybe in some room of the Orchid Station at the start of next season. Thanks for the confirmation.

7-15 I finally got around to watching the "Walkabout" in season 1 disc 1 and was looking at Locke's compass he had attached to his vest. I am guessing this is the one he hands to RA much later but I also am trying to remember if he gave it to someone with the words that he no longer needs it on the island, he knows his way around. Which makes me wonder how he got back in his possesion when he gives it to RA. I better get busy rewatching those shows, the next season will start and I won't be caught up at this rate.
