Smile This Isn't Really Construction But Still...

I have a 26" HD tv which I sit about 2 metres away from. Will I be able to fully appreciate blurays on this screen?

You want to sit about 1m away instead of two, or just get a 50"+ screen and keep the couch where it is

You'll certainly notice the increased resolution, but I'd sit a HECK of a lot closer if I had a 26" display.

Smile Thanks

Thanks guys. On sitting down on the chair again, I realise its about 1m/1.5m away and I get a really good view of it but feel I may not be able to notice the difference. I can't afford a bigger tv either...I think it'll be fine, I've watched HD movies on the xbox360 and noticed a change. What do you think?

EDIT - - - I'm thinking about getting a bigger TV. What is the next size up that would show off bluray better? thanks very much.

Upgradeitis can strike fast

"Next Size Up"

Hmm.... I'm not sure about where you are..... but here, the prices seem to "jump" at certain sizes....

For instance 37" is very affordable, then there is a small jump to the 40+ then a big jump to 50+ and at 60+ you're dealing with very high prices.

What type of T.V. are you willing to own?

LCD/PLASMA/DLP?

What resolution are you looking for.... 1080i or 1080p

I was at a store the other day, and they had a 50" 1080i Panasonic Plasma (Viera) for $800 and I think I might scoop it up. Many will say not to bother with a non-1080p, but for $800 and for 50" It would work great for my 8' viewing distance.

I'm guessing a 37" t.v. would be a pretty nice upgrade for you, and they've come down in price A LOT.... I probably wouldn't bother with a 32" since it's not going to be that big of a leap for you in terms of size.

Thumbs up

Hahahah yeah. I tried to ignore it but couldn't help it. Anyway, I'm not going to upgrade because I haven't got the money so I will make do with what I think is actually 27", not 26". Not a big difference I know, but it seems alright.

It'll do. Thanks for all your help anyway.

WILL I NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCE?

I'd agree with at least a bump up to 37" WHEN you can ($$$). As noted, you can also save some funds by going 1080i or at worst, 720p (basically the same, but some will say otherwise. just my opinion). I picked up my 50" Samsung (1080i for $800 2 yrs ago, but it was a "floor model" so I did save a couple hundred there.

Beta Man - I sit about the same distance from my DLP - also 1080i as noted above - and it looks Great to me. WHEN I upgrade to the 1080p mode, I'm sure i'll see a difference. Major one? Maybe not. But still it'll look better, if even just a 25-40% improvement.
