Arrow Larry Fessenden to Direct the Remake of THE ORPHANAGE

Quote:
You may not have heard of actor/producer/director Larry Fessenden but he’s kind of a big deal in underground horror circles. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the man behind such films
as “Wendigo” and “I Sell the Dead” is about to expand his sphere of influence as he takes on directing duties for New Line’s “The Orphanage” remake. More after the jump…

The original 2007 Spanish-language version of “The Orphanage” was directed by Juan Antonio Bayona and produced by Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro will return to produce the English version and had already worked up a script with Fessenden before the latter came onboard as director.

The plot still tells the story of a woman who returns to the orphanage where she grew up where she learns that her son’s imaginary friend is the same person who terrorized her as a child. New Line and del Toro are currently in search of an actress to head the cast.

Remake? WTF? I am so sick of these remakes of foreign films that are barely a few years old. Why do they think American audiences need these shitty remakes? Ugh, I am not supporting this at all. I love The Orphanage, a remake will only ruin it.

The original was shown in American theatres and was a mainstream movie only 2 yrs ago why is this being remade. Is there going to be a US remake of Harry Potter 2 years after its finished? I know Harry Potter is an extreme example and wasen't subtitled but still.

The original version was pretty weak imo, so there's not much hope for a US version being any better.

couldn't disagree more, but to each his own

can't believe there's a remake of this....just like every other american horror remake, i'm sure this one will probably be stripped of everything that made the original awesome

They must be profiting from these remakes, although horror movies usually don't make that much. Either way, I have no intention of seeing this.

+1 lol

And yeah, I understand a lot of people like it and that's cool and all, but it really didn't do much for me. Kind of an interesting ending, but getting there was boring, not much of an interesting story, characters weren't interesting, and no real horror or even creepiness. There wasn't a whole lot happening in this movie, imho

Would be difficult for it to be better than the original.

Remake? Haha. What could American mainstream cinema add to this to make it better? Oh wait! Loud sound effects during quiet moments! We'll give 'em the cheap scares and try to make our kiddie ever creepier.

I mean, isn't the original already good enough not to be remade by stupid American filmmakers?

+1 Couldn't have said it better myself. I absolutely HATE when they do this. I always see it as the US taking credit for other people's original work. Same thing happened with [REC]. Now you have idiots fighting with other people claiming that [REC] copied Quarantine. lol.
