Default PCM and MP3's on PS3

Prior to last update if your PS3 is set to Linear PCM output and you played PS3's some receivers couldn't change the audio field (mine included). After the most recent update of 2.7 when playing MP3's you can now change the Audio fields to pro logic or neo thx and etc. Before I would have to take off all pcm settings except for 2ch to be able to change the audio fields of the music. Nice Sony!! Thanks!!

If anyone didn't notice this I figured I would give a heads up

The reason AVR's can't change the fields was because the PS3 was sending signals on all channels and not all AVR's can matrix PCM.

begs the question. Does your receiver still show Multichannel? I'm curious if its defaulting to bitstream, or if mp3's are only sending 2 channels in PCM now. my ps3 is many hrs away

Great catch!

yeah its funny i only started giving out about the lack of this feature a few weeks befoe the 2.7 update hit.. couldnt believe my luck when it did... its nice to be able to use the DSP features on the receiver and hear sound from all speakers... by the way.. while we're here - whats the best dsp setting to use for music? i have Pro Logic options/DTS NEO Music etc.. MULTI Stereo..

my receiver is Sony STR DG910

i made a lot and when i tried playing the ACC files after the update i noticed they wont play anymore

Heh, I thought this was because of me switching to the 805. I noticed this but not the reason.

I still listen to it on 2channel but it's a nice feature nonetheless.

If I want to stream music to my home theatre, I use my Airport Express. No reason to burn 150W+ to play music.

Although, I must say, in my case, it still sounds much, much better in 2.0 than applying any sort of processing to it.

I prefer multichannel stereo. It sounds great with four full size towers.

Yes I know that and that is why it didn't work before. Seems that the PS3 is now switching to 2ch PCM when playing MP3's now.

Awesome, thanks for the confirmation! I won't be around my PS3 until Sunday to play with it.

Can anyone confirm whether this fix also works in system update 2.80?

I just upgraded and still have the same problem where MP3's are outputted as 5.1 with all but the left and right channels blanked. I never updated to 2.70 so I don't know if that update worked or not. I just can't seem to get it to work with 2.80.

Is there any setting that needs to change to enable this?

Should just have the audio output set on PCM, and when you play MP3's it switches to 2ch PCM for you which you can then change the sound fields on the receiver.
