Unhappy No Dialogue from Blu-ray's when playing on PS3

Hey guys,

IDK if this is the right place to post.

Today I wanted to watch a film, I first put in Mamma Mia! and at the beginning I got sound from the Music but when the Music went and it was just talking you could here nothing, I thought I'd hit something on the controller so I turned everything off, tried again and no luck I also checked connections.

I then tried a dozen other Blu's and they all had the same issue but when I put a Game in, it goes perfectly you can hear everything the people are saying.

IDK what it could be as I have never had this happen tome before.

My TV is the Samsung LE40B551A.

That's your problem right there. You pissed off your PS3 by putting in that movie.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyway, not knowing a thing about the PS3, I'm shooting in the dark here...but if I was having the same problem you're having, I'd first make sure my center channel was still plugged in (this assumes games send dialogue to the stereo channels).

Edit: shit, this also assumes you're even using a 5.1 setup, and not your tv. If you're using tv speakers, nevermind.

Have you tried resetting the PS3 (unplug)?

What are your settings on the PS3? bitstream? LPCM? Do you have a receiver and speakers involved or is it just the PS3 and TV? What connections are you using? HDMI? Composite? Optical? RCA?

Please provide more details.

Also, do you get sound from other movies and TV programming? Is it isolated to this one movie?

IDK what settings are on the PS3, it was auto set up. It is just PS3 & TV and I am using HDMI.

It only happens with Blu-ray films, they all used to work when we had the previous HDTV (an LG) though.

Just try to go to audio settings and then automatic scan and let it just detect the audio to see if that works.

if that doesn't work you may want to check to see if ps3 is set to bitstream or pcm. since you only have a TV speakers (2 channel stereo) I would think you would want to set the PS3 to PCM. Either way try both bitstream and PCM and see which works better.

It's your audio. Change the audio from bitstream to pcm and you'll be fine as everyone else has said. Happened to me and I would always get sound from the main menu and special features but once the movie starts dead silence. Thought it was my 4 year old sc-ht900 but after reading up on how the ps3 decodes the audio codecs I knew it couldn't be the problem. Fixed the bitstream to pcm and bam back in business. Unfortunately this bam back in business didn't happen for at least 3 months later so lesson learned .

My ps3 does the same thing to me. First time watching knowing the couple weeks back in the open scene is a teacher and her mouth was moving but no words, and only background noice. This is interesting, because when this happens and has happened a few times before if I stop the blu-ray back out to the main ps3 screen and then put the blu-ray back in the problem is gone! So it doesnt sound like its a center channel issue, and might be an update issue from ps3? Not sure but I too have this problem!
