first of all: http://www.boxofficemojo.com
who else has been paying attention to the box office charts - scanning for releases by the blu-ray exclusive studios to see what lies ahead for us in the future? i call it the box office wrap sheet because as time trudges on (since both formats are relatively new), more and more blockbusters will be available on blu-ray while hd dvd's market becomes anemic. it goes without saying (but i'll say it anyway) that longevity, with this considered, will bring a 'wrap' to this format 'war' (if we can still call it that)... blu-ray top box office: Ratatouille (disney) Live Free or Die Hard (fox) 1408 (mgm) Fantastic Four (sony) Pirates: At World's End (disney) hd-dvd: evan almighty (universal) knocked up (universal) |

Here's what I use to see all future releases and look at movie studios.
http://www.ncm.com/cms/articlefiles/...%206.25.07.pdf After looking, besides Bourn Ultimatem (or whatever it is), everything Universal has coming out over the next 12 months is a comedy or a drama. Wow. As Redux mentioned, as we get further into (months) the HD-DVD exclusive new releases as going to look very anemic compared to Blu-ray. It's just a matter of time. After the nostalgia of watching PiP bluescreen on HD-DVD wears off . . . their going to get mighty annoyed when they realize they simply have no movie selection to choose from. |

I check out boxofficemojo.com all the time. As far as the list in the first post, I believe that 1408 needs to go on the HD DVD side, as it is MGM for theatrical and the Weinsteins for home video. Seems like they have been collaborating like this on more than one movie.
Also, Universal has The Kingdom coming at the end of September that looks like an action movie. But for each Universal movie that looks like it has some success at the box office, it seems like there is a movie from Fox or Disney that will cancel that out, not even counting some of the biggest box office draws like the third Pirates movie. --Darin Last edited by darinp2; 07-01-2007 at 02:18 AM. |
