I have got some pretty good news for fellow fans of the NBC show Friday Night Lights! After barely getting it's 3nd season and being saved by DirecTV, NBC is actually very very close to announcing that FNL will be getting a 2 season, 26 episode pick-up!
"The two season, 26-episode pickup will be announced any day now. Unfortunately, it looks like Tyra will only be appearing in a handful of those 26, as (future CSI: Miami guest star) Adrienne Palicki is not expected back full time. Ditto Minka Kelly, who was recently cast in the CW pilot Body Politic opposite Veronica Mars' Jason Dohring. Both will likely be given multi-episode arc send-offs a la Gaius Charles' Smash and Scott Porter's Jason." Last edited by WyldeMan45; 03-26-2009 at 04:07 AM. |

Fantastic news. The best show you've never seen.
I assume it'll play first on Direct TV as it did this season. I don't have DTV so I'm watching it on NBC now. I don't understand how Kyle Chandler never gets an Emmy nomination. He and Hugh Laurie should each have a mantle full of Emmys by now. Too bad about Tyra and Lyla. they'll be missed. |

Huh? I said the show barely got it's 3rd season pickup but was saved by DirecTv and now just got 2 more seasons ordered. Anyways the ratings have always been bad but the studio loves the show and that's why it's still around. Peter Berg who directed the movie writes and directs the show to. The show is far better than the movie and has really come into it's own. Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) the resident drunk and football star just so happens to be Gambit in the upcoming Wolverine, which I am very much looking forward to!!

"Touch-freaking-down!
Sources at NBC are now confirming what I first reported earlier this month: DirecTV and NBC have come to terms on a deal that ensures Friday Night Lights will stick around for not one but two more seasons! And I repeat: Touch-freaking-down! Although NBC declined to comment, my Peacock insider says the pact guarantees that FNL will see a fourth and fifth season of 13 episodes each. Similar to this season's shared-window experiment, DirecTV will get first crack at the episodes followed by an encore run on NBC." http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/ SPOILERS BELOW: And Kyle Chandler spilled a little about the shape of the seasons to come (although you should skip this part if you haven't finished watching season three on NBC yet!): Kyle says, "Coach has been moved into the poor part of town, and we have no pool to draw from for a football team. I think it opens up [the show] to be far more representative, having more Hispanics in the show, blacks in the show. And then also just being the underdogs going up against my old show where my wife is still principal." Any chance Tami Taylor will follow Coach to the wrong side of the tracks in seasons four and five? Britton has her theories! "I think it would be interesting if she did, but it may be too difficult to depict in the show. It could also be interesting if I also go over there, and we're both struggling at this school that is just falling apart." Mind you none of this is set in stone, as Connie is quick to point out, "We generally leave that stuff to the writers because their ideas are going to be 10 times better than anything I'd have an idea for!" Pshaw! Sadly, many of the current castmembers, include Taylor Kitsch's Riggins, Minka Kelly's Lyla, Zach Gilford's Matt Saracen and Adrianne Palicki's Tyra, play graduating seniors who are likely to eventually exit and move on with their lives on and offscreen. Says Kyle of the rotation, "They told us that that was going to be the case when we started the show—that people weren't going to stay on the show for seven years and be freshmen. People who have gone off the show, they knew what was going on. It does give a chance for new people to come on and for the show to be far more organic in that way, although some of the folks who are leaving I really wish they weren't, obviously." http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watc..._two_more.html Last edited by WyldeMan45; 03-31-2009 at 08:21 PM. |

This is great news. I really, really like this show. It's so well written and acted. Such a breath of fresh air from all the other reality crap airing non-stop on every other channel. I'm surprised more don't watch it as it always receives outstanding reviews. Oh well, their loss.

Excellent Show, LOVE IT! Thank god for DirecTV where I caught the last season & this one (unless last year was on NBC--I forget--but watched it). Great writing, great young/old acting, good real stories. Excellent show. Just wish it was 2 years of your regular 20-22 shows like Episodic TV shows.
Oh well, 2 years is 2 years. Best TV show news i've heard in a long time! ![]() ![]() |

While originally intended to be a Hoosiers-type chronicle of high school sports holding a small town together, the final book ended up being critical about life in the town of Odessa, Texas, complete with portraits of what Bissinger called "the ugliest racism" he has ever witnessed, as well as misplaced priorities, where football conquered most aspects of the town and academics were ignored for the sake of championships. Bissinger was a sports writer for The Philadelphia Inquirer, when he decided to write a book about high school sports. After a search, he settled on Odessa, TX and their famous Permian Panthers. The Panthers had a long, rich history of winning in Texas' AAAA and AAAAA division, winning championships in 1965, 1972, 1980 and 1984 at the time when Bissinger and his family moved from Philadelphia to Odessa. He spent the entire football season with the Permian Panther players, their families, the coaches, and even many of the townspeople in an effort to understand the town and their football culture and what created such madness for their football team. In 2002, Sports Illustrated named Friday Night Lights the fourth-greatest book ever written about sports. Last edited by WyldeMan45; 04-01-2009 at 03:33 AM. |
