Default Corel Windvd Plus9 problems!

Hi guys
I purchased my corel windvd plu 9 in May since I kept getting a aacs key update from the old windvd on my laptop purchased in July 2008. It played for awhile on my sony vaio laptop. Some of the discs would not play though. Now it is asking for another accs key update, when I try to do this nothing happens. I do not think it should be asking me this already? Corel keeps sending me to differnt Q/A on their site. Can somebody help!
Thanks

Have you seen this ACCS Key Update section on Corel's web site?

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satelli.../1210018667197

Also, do you have the latest patch installed?

http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satelli...=1245942696870

From my understanding the keys must be updated every year. If you just purchased this product in May 09 you shouldn't be receiving an AACS Key Update notification. However, I see that you purchased your laptop w/ the OEM version of WinDVD in July 08 which was a year ago. Did you do a complete uninstall of the OEM WinDVD prior to installing the retail version of WinDVD? I'm wondering if that may be a source of the issue. I'd try uninstalling all traces of WinDVD, reboot, and try reinstalling the retail version again.

EDIT: Also when you're trying to update the AACS key make sure you're running WinDVD as an administrator (Admin mode).

Also, are there specific titles that trigger the AACS key update message?

Thanks
I did try removing the windvd first but maybe I was not successful at removing all of it. Are you saying I should reinstall the Corel windvd after this? I do not know how to make sure it is the admin mode
Thanks again for you help

Try running WinDVD in Admin mode first.

Are you using XP or Vista? There are multiple ways to do this. You could either login to Windows under an Administrator account (vs. a User account) or you can use one of the following procedures under a User account.

If you're using Vista and are logged in with a User account then follow these steps:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922708

To run a program as an administrator, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the icon that you use to run the program, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. When you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the administrator password, or click Continue.

If you have XP and are logged in with a User account then follow these steps:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294676

Use the Run As command with a shortcut
  1. Navigate to the shortcut item. Click Start, point to Programs, and then locate the shortcut item in the Programs menu.
If the shortcut is not located in the Programs folder of the Start menu, navigate to the proper location of the shortcut.
  2. Press SHIFT and hold while you right-click the shortcut item, and then click Run as.
  3. Perform one of the following steps, depending on which operating system you have:
    • Windows 2000: In Run As Other User, type the User name, Password, and Domain, and then click OK.
    • Windows XP: In Run As, click the following user option, type or select the User name, type the Password, and then click OK.

Whch titles are you experiencing problems with? The studios periodically change keys with some of the newer titles. If this is the case then we have to wait until the software companies update the software to account for those changes. Sometimes BDs are authored in a way that wasn't anticipated and the software needs to be updated to account for this and on rare occasions you can get a bad disc.

Red face Problems Here Too

I've read the posts in this thread so, hopefully that will help.

I too, have a Sony Vaio laptop w/winDVD expired on it. I updated from winDVD 8 to 9 to watch both my Blu-ray and HD DVD movies but so far only my Blu-ray movies are recognized. I'll post again later on my success or failure.
