Default DMP-BD80 compatibility

Can anyone attest to the BD80's ability to play most discs without issue?

I'm dealing with Samsung right now on their player's inability to play my Ghostbusters BD and it's looking like they're going to refund my money. I like the idea of having a Panny player to match the tv, and their gear is getting really good reviews. I just wanted to check here in case people are having a lot of problems (searched but didn't find).

I'd consider Oppo if it were $150 cheaper (just heading some of you off).

Thanks in advance.

I haven't tried Ghostbusters on my BD80 yet but every other disc I've tried on it has worked. I've never had it not play a disc.

Scratch that...the lady I spoke to today was full of shit. I just talked to someone else and they definitely won't be giving me any money back. O well...I like the player...I just want to watch Ghostbusters dammit! She said she's "logging the complaint" about the firmware.

Definitely won't be buying Samsung again though.

I bought a BD80 in May and it is going in to Panasonic for its second repair!
My problem is it pauses during playback for 5 seconds on at least 2 Blu ray discs I bought; Batman Begins and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
After the first repair I found that the analog audio output was highly attenuated, which I know was perfect before repair. BD80 still pauses.
It is random and not repeatable at same spot on discs.

Sending it in for repair will do nothing, since it exists across all models using the same board, is random and they have no solution for it yet

Why so many problems with BD players?

My DV-414 never gave me these problems. Actually, still sounds beautiful...always loved the quality of audio from that player. I should hook that up for music...weekend project!

Anyone know if it's better to use analog or optical for that?

That's not a bad idea actually, to bring back out the 414 as a CD player It was my first DVD player.

Your receiver probably has better DACs, so go digital

Blu-ray players are incredibly complicated devices, heck the 414 freezes at the layer change of Monster's Inc.

The freeze issue on the 60/80 is probably some memory leak bug that gets tripped by something completely bizarre. Hitting the popup when certain memory areas are active, who knows. I do know that Panasonic is actively working to resolve it however

The only time I've gotten freezes is the first disc after firmware updates oddly enough

Does higher rate = better? I know the 414 is 96/24 and the 517 is 192/24.
