Not only you will need a new receiver, but you'll need to purchase additional speakers as well, to fully utilize Dolby Amos. Adopting to Dolby Atmos, can be quite expensive right now. Maybe after a year or two, the overall cost will decrease.

So...
You could buy an AVR and move the 5/7 speakers to the /2 spot and do... 7.1 or 5/1/2. My main theatre uses IIz/DSX height for 9.1. Would have bought Atmos this year, but the half-baked 2.0 stopped me. Holding out for a 4K projector. I used to sell wholesale, and the price for an upcoming 4K(if specs are accurate...and it isn't an E-shifter) falls right into my cost ratio. So...Atmos waits. The atmos mixes on 7.1 are quite agressive. Even if you only have a 7.1 speaker setup you will notice alot more positional sounds. They sound amazing on my 7.1 system. It also sounded amazing on my sister's 5.1 cheapie box system.
Im sure it no where near atmos quality but was a step up with my current system. |
