Hey,
Looks like Wolfgang Peterson is set to direct a live action version of Paprika: ![]() Quote:
I think this is a great news. Just hoping the live action version of the Anime will be a good one, and quenches my thirst. ![]() Enjoy. |

TO BE DIRECTED BY:
...someone who's never heard of Anime in his entire west-coast life except for what Sony's been slopping the arthouses, because the critics talked about it. In other news, don't wait up for that Keanu version of "Cowboy Bebop" either. Yes, I'm still depressed after seeing "Dragonball: Evolution". ![]() |

Yes, but for those about to ask "...WHY Paprika?
![]() ![]() The answer is, "Because he's heard of it." Which reminds us of just HOW much real anime rich, shallow Hollywood studio execs have heard of, and how much they gush over the first bit of it they come across after some critic told them it was Trendy with the young kids out there. (And no current word on that Disney live-action "Kiki's Delivery Service", either.) Not that we have a few here who are particularly innocent on the "Sony cruelly exploiting cultural inexposure" front either: Bought that Blu-ray of "Tekkonkinkreet", did we? ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 08-11-2009 at 07:54 PM. |

Wolfgang Peterson is an excellent director and filmmaker but the truth is I've probably forgotten more about anime than he knows so this movie is just not going to be good.

<insert twelve other "I'd rather see (sample hentai title)!" jokes here...
Thank you, guys, noted and logged. ![]() Quote:
I've often made the case that there's a good live-action movie to be made out of "Ranma 1/2"--albeit with some Dragonball-esque Westernized liberties, in a good way--and that the aborted Geena Davis-produced "Sailor Moon" could've been a lot better if they producers had ever seen the Japanese show in their life. (Oh, Geena, you're not too old to play Queen Beryl yet, don't let us give up hope! ![]() ...Either one, however, would involve spare-time exposure to real anime, and breaking free of the dungeons and iron shackles of oppressive Sony tyranny. Which, frankly, we don't expect from the Poseidon-remake director. ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 08-11-2009 at 08:47 PM. |

Are you kidding me, this anime would be a joke to turn into a live feature. It is so artistically convoluted within the frame- how on earth can somebody translate that?? Answer: It cannot properly be done.
I'm glad Paprika is at least getting some attention though. It is one of the finest anime's I've ever seen. |

This reminds me ... I have to look into a movie called "Perfect Blue". They show a poster for it in Paprika.
Last time I checked it was available on Blu Ray but expensive. Seems like it may be worth while... I'm going to go look for it. -Brian |

As to a live action Paprika, the material lends itself well to live action (and animation) but I would prefer someone like Guillermo del Toro or Tarsem to direct as I think they could handle the visuals better. |

Agreed, I have nothing against remakes, but why do such films as this and Death at a Funeral have to be remade so soon after they where just released.

They want to feel some "personal" connection to it...Like, maybe getting the royalties to the remake all to themselves, or hoping other people think they were the ones who painted it in the first place. ![]() |

![]() A live action Paprika?! It would have to be at least partially CG, unless they were to dig into the darker side of The Muppets and comission a huge budget. I dunno, I have yet to see a live action movie based off of an Anime that actually looks and sounds worthwhile. Case in point: Anyone watch the trailer for "Blood: The Last Vampire"? Looks craptastic dosen't it? And yet we petty Anime fans will probably at least rent it (probably buy) because our thirst for Anime on Blu has yet to be quenched... |
