Default Sean Penn, Jim Carrey, & Benicio del Toro are... The Three Stooges

http://www.joblo.com/penn-carrey-stooges

Quote:
You may have heard the rumors but if you're like me, you didn't really think they would pan out. But somehow they have. Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro are set to star in THE THREE STOOGES for the Farrelly Brothers and they're bringing Jim Carrey with them. Del Toro will star as Moe, Penn will star as Larry and Carrey will gain 40 lbs to star as Curly. And I swear this is not an early April Fools gag.

As I mentioned, both Penn and Del Toro had been rumored as possibilities (as had Russell Crowe at one point) but Carrey's name never came up (at least anywhere that I heard). Penn had reportedly been studying with voiceman Billy West (who did an amazing Larry Fine
back on the "Howard Stern Show") to get his voice down. As Variety notes, it would be Penn's first comedy since 1989 and a surprising one giving his recent Oscar win for MILK.

Now that the cast is set, the Farrelly brothers will fine tune the script and look to have production underway this fall for MGM. As previously mentioned, this project won't be a biopic but rather a comedy very much the way the Three Stooges would have made a comedy back in their day.

Extra Tidbit: Wow.

Now this is going to be interesting.

I love the Stooges. Nothing will change those original classics. Bring on the movie - sounds like fun.

Anybody here remember Fridays? They used to do a pretty funny send up (with Larry David if I remember correctly).

I figured Curly would definatly be played by Jack Black if one day they made the movie..Jim Carrey's great and all, just seems Jack Black would "fit" the role more.

Jack Black can't do Curly's voice nor his sounds

this movie sounds like a really terrible idea, they need to stop messing with the classics, let them RIP

Incorrect.

Slapstick comedy is not the same as sticking a firecracker up your @$$.

Slapstick comedy is actually funny.

Aside from Sean Penn (whom I loathe) I think that this could be good; "could" being the key word. Jim Carrey and Benicio del Toro are fantastic actors IMO.

I don't agree that Jack Black could play Curly; I just don't see it.

I think it's a bit more than slapstick to the genius of the Three Stooges, "Don't you know they speak vaudevillian." -Frank Black (Two Reelers)

While everyone may not enjoy a movie like Jackass doesn't mean it doesn't fit the meaning of slapstick comedy.

Websters Dictionary- comedy stressing farce and horseplay
Wiki (I know not the best resource)- Slapstick is a type of comedy involving exaggerated extreme physical violence or activities which exceed the boundaries of common sense, such as a character being hit in the face with a heavy frying pan or running into a brick wall. These hyperbolic depictions are often found in children's cartoons (such as Tom and Jerry, Road Runner...), light film comedies aimed at younger audiences. Though the term is often used pejoratively, the performance of slapstick comedy requires exquisite timing and skillful execution.
