Default My appartment bluilding was Banned from bluray.com

all 32 residence in my apartment building can't join bluray.com.
They all get the same message after joining. Could it be that they share an IP address???

Who knows? I just think it's funny that they banned the whole building.

LOL

Maybe it was due to poor spelling and grammar?

If the apartment provides internet to tenants they likely network all rooms to a central high bandwidth connection.

I don't see how an apartment would share 1 IP address as the router would subnet each connection.

Yes, we share one main FiOs router and a few are hard wired to the same main frame unit. Verizon couldn't install seprate units due to our co-op board. Manhattan is a pain in the azz. (single IP)

Internally the router would give everyone an IP address, but to an outside website they would all be from the same external IP given by the ISP provider. Works the same way as a router at home. If you have two or more conputers sharing one connection, they have 2 IP's in your home network, but outside the router it's only 1 connection (and 1 IP address from your ISP). Traffic from the outside looks like it's coming from 1 source, the router is what splits the traffic once it gets there to the correct PC.

Would probably suck, but many companies and apartments do things this way. If they get "industrial grade" connection, as in high speed fiber to the building, there is a lot of bandwidth to go around. Depending on how large the apartment is, this could be very easy to do.

Precisely why there's so many "I'm selling all my Blu-ray movies because <insert financial hardship here>" in the Trade thread.

I'm saying that I hardly believe a whole entire apartment building would all own Blu-Ray players.

Quick, go out and download as many movies and mp3's as you can, then you can just blame it on the neighbor!* Since you share the same IP address, it's foolproof!

*don't really do this.
