I was all but sold on an SVS cylinder, but I'm having second thoughts about putting a big black cylinder in my multi-use room. I'm also concerned that the PC 12 or PC 13 will be too big and boomy for my roughly 3000 cu ft space.
So I've widened my search to include Rythmik and am taking second and third looks at Hsu and Epik (any others I should consider?). I like the Rythmik F12 and D15 on paper, but there doesn't appear to be a very big user community. I e-mailed Rythmik and Ascends Audio early this morning with some questions, but haven't heard back even though I made clear I'm ready to buy. So for responsive sales and customer service, advantage Hsu and SVS. I'm currently using a nearly 10-year-old Cambridge Soundworks P500 8" sealed sub in my mixed-use home theater, which takes up half of a 26' x 16' x 7.5' finished basement with a tile floor. Installed in the corner, the P500 delivers clean, undistorted bass but doesn't pressurize the room adequately to deliver that bass-you-can-feel effect. I'm not looking to (literally) rock the house, disturb the neighbors, or put on any YouTube-worthy displays of force. I want a sub that can keep up with my Boston VRM-60 mains when I'm listening to jazz, classical and all manner of popular music but still deliver a convincing performance when watching blockbuster Blu-Rays with great lossless soundtracks with a lot of low end stuff. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Sorry for the late reply. There are huge discussions of Rythmik on AVS DIY speakers. Rythmik are highly regarded, and the user reviews are invariably superb. On that basis I bought a DS12 kit and made my own. In hindsight, I should have bought the DS15 kit, so I'd recommend getting that - not because the '12 is lacking but because the '15 is so little extra.
So - is it any good? Rythmik focus on music sound quality, and it really does deliver here. I also happen to have a Veldyne HGS15, and rather to my surprise, given the Velo's reputation, I find the Rythmik significantly better. It just resolves everything, instead of having sound descend into the sort of LFE noise that you hear at the cinema. Nick |
