Sorry if this has already been addressed. I`m getting close to replacing my dlp and went to BB today to take a look at the Panny`s and Samsung led.
While talking to the saleskid the topic turned to the pioneers. He said that they are not getting out of the plasma making business, just didn`t make any for 09 and might start making them again next year. Any truth to this? Lee |

No OFFICIAL press release yet. I wouldn't count on people on the internet that spread rumors. If it hasn't come from Pioneer it may or maynot be true

If this is true then im going to be a little upset seeing how i ran out and bought an elite based off the fact that there will be no more plasmas from them. i didn't even plan on buying a TV this year.
*looks at his elite* oh forget it, i love you pioneer.10g kuros please. ![]() |

I'm wondering if "not getting out of the Plasma business" simply refers to the supposed merging or amalgamation of the Pioneer and Panasonic technologies. My understanding was that Pioneer had/would transition their manufacturing personnel and some of their "Black" technology and unite with Panasonic's glass manufacturing technology. I read that Pioneer had a hard time maintaing costs because of the higher cost of glass manufacturing to them, which is where Panasonic was ahead of the curve. Not sure what the end product would be a Piosonic perhaps or Pananeer? All this was speculated last year and may have changed altogether by now.

This is probably stemming from the news that Pioneer was not going to get rid of the Kuro brand. While it is most associated with their plasma televisions it has been used on other products. I don't believe they were referring to getting back into the television market, but rather utilizing the branding they have already established.
While I would love for Pioneer to reestablish a Plasma television market, at this point it's wishful thinking. |

You sure you want to do that? if they're really not making plasmas anymore your going to miss out on getting a kuro. bestbuy does have alot left though. and its been at $6500MSRP for 3 weeks now. they usually have it on sale every week. my guess is pionner is leaving at that price to make a few more sales before the big drop.

Look guys, it was not my intent to start a s**t storm. If you look at my op i have the statement followed by a ?. This is not some " rumor " that i have started, it was a legit question that i have because the BB guy appeared to be sincere about the possibility that Pioneer could be making plasma`s in the not so distant future. He said that the only thing that Pioneer`s press release said was that they would not be making an 09 plasma, not that they are getting out all together.
He also mentioned that they have not sold their plant where the plasma`s are made ( in the US by the way ). He basically made it sound like they were going to rework their business model in order make them cheaper and then start producing them again. All i wanted to do is find out if this is something that other people have heard or if it is simply not true. I don`t think it will make any difference on when i get a plasma, i just thought it was something interesting that i had never heard. Thanks |

I`m NOT a rumor type guy. If i hear something i will ask about it in order to gain info, that`s it. I plan on getting probably the panny in a couple of months, although in the store the samsung led looked real good also. Any thoughts on that tv? I noticed you have a 51fd, what are you`re thoughts on it? I have one also. I think it is very good but is very slow ![]() Thanks |

Pioneer said that they'll be getting out of the plasma business by march 31 2010. whether that was a lie to get us to buy up the current 9g's i have no idea. as i said, i would be a little upset cause i thought they weren't making anymore and thats why i got one so soon. but i would still be happy as hell cause now they get to make the 10g kuros.

All this talk about Kuros and Elite plasmas really has me thinking I want one. Should I buy one? Seriously, I would appreciate as much info as possible on Elite plasmas. If I get time off for Rest & Relaxation the first thing I want to buy is one of these displays.

Personally I wouldnt go with an edge lit LED Sammy....I've seen em and I just cant make myself consider them over a Panny V10. If you are considering lcd [edge lit or otherwise] I would suggest you take a look-see at the XBR8 [Sony]. The 51 works out alright, it is slow but since its my back-up I got no complaints, I gotta say tho my Sony 300 is slower. You do have the current firmware on it dont you? I mean I actually like it more than my 320 in terms of build quality, and I am one of those people who hate it when they make flimsy stuff...for instance Sammys argh dont even get me started on how flimsy their TVs and their DVD/BD players are! Anyways my point I guess is that if I could have afforded it I would have gone with the new Pio Elite players that just came out. I'm done ![]() |

- Any hesitation due to retention/burn-in fears I believe are unnecessary. For the first 200hrs I did run a break-in DVD (you can find on-line) for part-time and the other time I simply watched full screen content. Since then I have watched anything and everything for long periods of time with absolutely no problem. Of course, I am not an idiot and leave the TV on for 24 hours on pause. - I avoid watching Standard TV and try to watch exclusively HD and Blu-rays. Maybe it's because of this that anytime I "stumble" on a standard broadcast, I am shocked by the awful picture quality. Not sure if it is the TV or simply my viewing habits. DVD watching is fine however. - The attachable speakers are nice looking and sound fine, but a TV like this really needs to be attached to a good audio system. I have my speakers attached because I like the way they look. Also, I have the option of watching OTA programs only with the TV speakers. - The display itself is a bit sensitive to stains, but I try to never touch it and the smudges I have seen, I was able to clean with no problem (including my son's hand print at one point). - Although many recommend professional calibration on this set, I have not done it and do not see any obvious reason to do it - the PQ is awesome out of the box. I may change my mind someday but not today. I'll leave it at that for now. Please let me know if you have any further questions. Get home soon! Last edited by vega2K; 08-05-2009 at 03:29 PM. |
