Arrow Vin Diesel Interested in Playing Doctor Doom, Has Discussed Namor/Sub-Mariner Movie

Click here for more on the story and a video interview of Vin discussing the topic.

Quote:
“I would be more apt to play a villain,” Diesel revealed to MTV News. “[I'd like to play] the protagonist of a story that is also like a Marvel villain — like Doctor Doom or something.”

In light of the newly announced plans for a “Fantastic Four” reboot, Diesel could get his chance to portray the Latverian dictator soon enough. But there are other characters in the comic book pantheon that the action star would be interested in pursuing, including one seaworthy superhero in specific.

“I have some superhero favorites,” Diesel admitted. “I talked to ['The Surrogates' director] Jonathan Mostow about ‘Sub-Mariner,’ which could be interesting because of its World War II-New York connection.”

Despite being one of the longest running superhero characters in comic books — a history that included fighting alongside Captain America in the 1930s — Namor the Sub-Mariner has yet to cross over to the big screen. In recent years, there has been some talk about “Crank” actor Jason Statham tackling the Atlantean hero — who, ironically, has also declared his interest in “Daredevil,” a property that Vin Diesel once circled.

i guess i could kind of see him as doom...kind of...still seems slightly cheesy to me when i think of him in the role, but i guess it all depends on his performance and how he would decide to play the character (if he were in fact chosen of course)

I remember about 5 years ago he was attached to Sub Mariner, so I guess he wants to go back to it now that he hopes F&F will save his sunken career.

Default Update

Hey,

since I saw another thread that include the name Namor, decided to start a new thread and just post it here.

UPDATE

NAMOR THE SUB-MARINER MOVIE STILL IN WORKS

Quote:
Prince Namor The Sub-Mariner is one of the Marvel characters to still have their movie rights held under option to a movie studio, in this case Universal, and not be part of the ‘crossover club’ sheltering under the Marvel Pictures roof. That disqualifies him from appearing in the Avengers film in any way, of course, but the ongoing appetite for Marvel movies means Universal have been keeping their Namor picture in development.

Currently attached as a director, it would seem, is Johnathan Mostow. His entry to the action genre was ‘bad-town’ thriller Breakdown, a film I never much cared for I’m afraid but which definitely put a rocket up Mostow’s career. He later directed the third, and worst, Terminator film and has the intriguing-looking Surrogates coming very soon. It was doing publicity for this one that he was collared by Collider and squeezed for comments on Namor.

ENJOY.

Bleh I don't like Namor, I'd rather see Aquaman in a JLA movie. Not to mention I will stay far away from any movie done by Vin Diesel.

The guy that played Doom was easily the best character in both Fantastic Fours!! I would keep him and scrap the rest.

Namor can be a good movie if done right..

Always prefer Sub-Mariner over Aquaman.

I think he has the voice to play Dr. Doom. Either than, I'm so-so on it.

Are you serious? I posted the below quote because I thought most would know that Vin Diesel voiced Iron Giant. He would sound exactly the same if he played Dr Doom --- I wouldn't be able to take him seriously!!!

What about Michael Chiklis as Thing?

I thought he did a great job.

The others were good but I wouldn't mind if they were replaced honestly.

But if they make another Fantastic Four I think Michael Chiklis is the go guy for Thing.
