Default Collection Display ???'s

1st off, i'm really anal when it comes to my movies and how they look on the shelves.

2nd, would this be the right spot for this thread??

i've been tossing around the idea of splitting up my entire movie collection.

right now, i've got my blu's by themselves and the dvd's by themselves.

i've recently pulled all of my daughters "little kid" cartoons out of the main collection and put them on their own shelves.

i'm contemplating doing the same for holiday movies but i can't decide.

does/has anyone else had this issue before???

also, all of my movies are in alphabetical order.

I have all my kids dvds on there own shelf where they can reach them.

I have my regular dvd's on there own shelf arrange by alpha.

My blu's are all in alpha order except for the Digibook(which I hate)..they are that the ending.
I find it much easier to find a movie by alpha once the wife and the kids put them back in the right place.

I've been meaning to organize my movies by genre. If you do that, you might find that you like it better, and won't feel so awkward separating the family blu's from the bunch.

i'm mainly looking @ doing it this way b/c i don't want to run through a bunch of movies i have no intention of watching.

tinkerbell plays enough, i'm not gonna watch it when i'm working in the basement by myself.

and x-mas movies, those sit upstairs from the day after thanksgiving till x-mas day.

so i figure it just makes more sense this way.

then what i was thinking of doing is having my dvd's all displayed, then put my blu's in another spot on the shelves, then the kids' movies, then the x-mas movies, then fill in the rest of the shelves w/movie memorabilia and/or props (reproductions of course).

Ditch the cases and store all your movies in a nice leather bound storage book. Then use some cataloging software to track your collection.

I have over 350 movies condensed down into less than 3 sq. ft. of space, and all of the information that would normally be on the jacket cover is now on my computer.

This is the software I use:
http://www.collectorz.com/movie/

Here is a pic of my room:

Over 350 movies in those 4 brown cases on top of my entertainment center.

+1 on the Collectorz.com. Great program, have been using it for years. I love that I can put it on my iPhone, very nice for seeing if I have a movie while out shopping.

It really is great software, and it's updated more frequently than most software that costs 4x as much.

There is really no reason why anyone with over 100 movies in there collection should not have a copy of this.

Kyle... I see you are using the Collectorz Connect. How are you liking it?

I like it, it is really easy to use too. When I first got it, I thought I was going to have to enter all the info myself, but all you have to do is export your movies from collector into a XML file and then upload onto collectorz connect. Very easy. Only problem I have with it right now is that some of the covers are not showing up in my list. Figure I will just try uploading it again.

And when you want to add more movies you can just export/upload single movies. And I just got a email from collectorz saying that they have the connect up as a mobile site too.

sorry about going a little off topic Benny, but yeah I would seperate your movies by genre/format and still keep them in alphabetical order too. Once I get my new shelving in that is how I wa planning on organizing mine too.
