United Kingdom Battlestar Galactica: The Ultimate Collection (includes Caprica)

12th October 2015

Contains all seasons (including Razor), The Plan, Blood & Chrome and Caprica for the first time on Blu-ray in the UK

Wonder if this means we might get Caprica as a separate set as well.

Pre-order

Nice looking set. Seems to be the same as the Limited French set that was released last year but minus the original BSG movie. I've been bummed that I missed the French set but it may be a blessing in disguise as this set will have English text on the pages.

However, the price is going to have to come way, way down. The French set was a little more than $100 if I remember correctly. And this set will need to get around there for me to bite since it would all be a double dip except for the Caprica discs.

Damn, looks great. Don't fancy double dipping right now though and yeah, certainly not for >£100

Here's a site with a really good look at the French release for those that want to get a better idea of what this set will offer.

http://movieshelter.blogspot.com/201...-complete.html

Besides the original movie I can't figure out what other disc is being left out to get the UK set down to 27 discs. The only thing I can think of was that maybe they re did the Caprica discs and made that season four discs instead of five. Or it could just be a typo on the Amazon page.

Upon another look at the pictures in the OP, I can see the 27 discs on the side of the packaging meaning it's not a typo on the Amazon page. Could we hopefully be getting a 1080p release of Caprica on four discs then?

27 discs, together with the blurb on the packaging suggests to me that this set doesn't include the original series or Galactica 1980.

NuBSG - 20 discs
The Plan - 1 disc
Blood & Chrome - 1 disc
Caprica - 5 disc
= 27 disc

Note the packaging blurb references nuBSG and Caprica, but no mention of the original series.

The original series included would add an extra 9 discs to the set.

You're forgetting the Razor disc. That would make 28 discs by your count then. The original French set was 29 discs. All the ones you listed, plus Razor, plus the original series movie. Something still isn't adding up.

Razor was already included in the 20 disc nuBSG set

Either way it looks clear the BSG TOS won't be included, which is an absolute pisstake given the 'ultimate' labelling.

Except the new BSG is 20 discs without Razor. Look at this

That list all 29 discs from the French set. The regular series is 20 discs, Caprica is 5, Razor is 1, The Plan is 1, Blood and Chrome is 1, and the original movie is 1.

There is a new French ultimate edition coming out the same time with 38 BD for only €100.
This includes all the original Battlestar show disks as they were released after the original 29 disk French boxset last year.

http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00YWCVYMA

As I put in the Caprica thread this is a bargain at £75 delivered to UK.

Okay it will have French writing on all text, but disks are all the same possibly apart from Caprica. If you see discussions in that thread the French version of Caprica is better than the new German / Scandinavian version which will almost certainly appear in the UK as has UK menus. However this is cut in a couple of episodes. Both are 1080/50i with English DTS-HDMA 5.1, however French disks only have French menus and default to French audio so you have to switch to English.

The old French complete nuBSG set was already 22 discs including Razor and The Plan. Our's was 20, including Razor.

Still think 27 discs for the UK will be the existing nuBSG discs (20), The Plan (1), Blood & Chrome (1), and Caprica (5).

I'd be surprised if Caprica doesn't get a standalone release at some stage. The rest of BSG got individual releases.

You're right. It seems season four of the French set is six discs, while the U.S. and UK season four is five discs. I just assumed they would all be the same number of discs.

So it looks like it will be 19 discs for the series proper, 5 for Caprica, and 1 each for Razor, The Plan, and Blood and Chrome. 27 total discs. Just need to hold out hope that we get a 1080p release of Caprica this time.

Hopefully Caprica gets an individual set at some point. The price on this thing is outrageous for essentially just Caprica on Blu being the only new content.

Holy hell, the UK customers are getting completely taken to the cleaners for the price point and the fact that original series is not included. I'm about halfway through paying for the new FR set with Amazon France gift cards and this is not tempting me from stopping.

Yeah they are. Compared to the price of the actual complete French set the UK one is quite expensive. The only downside I can see with the complete French set is that it may not contain both the widescreen and OAR versions of the original series. And if only one version is included it will prbably be the widescreen version, which the reviewer here said is the lesser of the two versions.

I don't know why people are concerned about the price. Amazon pre-orders are usually high when they first go live. Give it a week or 2 and the price will come down.

Sure the list price will come down. But the list price for the French set (that includes the original series) is less than half of what the UK set (that does not include the original series) is. The UK set will have to be discounted at least 75% before it starts to become a good deal in comparison to the French set. And I don't think we will see a discount that great.

Maybe, but I think if they try and foist the widescreen version on French customers, there'll be war over it. Besides, if the bare minimum is what they're after then putting up the original series with the original OAR is it.

The only reason I think it would be widescreen for the original series is because of how it was released here in the U.S. The original series was released here in a set with both the widescreen and OAR versions, and a widescreen only version. There is no way to buy just an OAR version of the original series.

Oh I know, mate, I'm just thinking that none of the releases of the original series over here on BD were the cropped widescreen. Plus the UK and German version in the OAR were decent transfers.

Anyways, this is all academic until we get our greasy mitts on the set!
