I love my Sony BDP-S360. Amazon has it for $201 with free shipping right now.

You're in good shape if your player budget is $350... You can choose from several great models around $200 and use the rest to start a movie collection... I recommend the Sony mentioned above as well as the Panasonic DMP-BD60 which is slightly less on Amazon...

Those two are great choices for around $200. Like someone mentioned above, you can use the remaining $150 to buy some great BD movies.

Andrew -

The one thing you didn't say is how do you plan to connect the BD player for audio. If you have a newer model of AV Receiver that has HDMI inputs and does the docoding for the lossless audio formats then the AVR handles the audio functions while the BD player only needs to pass the bitstream from the disc to the AVR. However, if you have an older AVR that does not have HDMI (and support at least multichannel PCM input via HDMI) then you will need one of the BD player step-up models that decodes all of the audio formats internally and has Digital-to-Analog converters with a multichannel (5.1 or 7.1 channel) analog audio output that can be fed to your AVR.

I have a Onkyo 706 that can decode the audio. So I can patch the audio directly into the receiver through the HDMI.

knowing what i know now, from having one, i'd tell you to save another
$200 and buy yourself an Oppo blu. I know you said you wanted to stay within your budget now, but trust me, saving for another month or so and getting what is the best player within double it's price range right now and for the forseable future i think a little waiting and saving is worth it. i have never been happier.

remember, you heard it here!

what would the benefit of spending an extra $200 be? what kind of features would the more expensive model have? i don't know much about blu ray players. so i'm not sure what would be gained.

You would have a great Blu-ray player that does a stnd-up job of upconverting standard DVD's, plays DVD-A and SACD's, hasw analog outs in case your receiver doesn't have HDMI or audio over HDMI, really fast load times. Just to name a few.

BTW, I love mine, too!!!
