Default I feel like a woman, I can't make up my mind

I need to get a new BD player and having a hard time making a choice. I'm stuck between the Oppo, Sony 560 and PS3.
In your opinions, what is the feature of these that makes it stand out from the rest? (For PS3 lovers I don't give a snit about games)

The PS3 has wireless Internet and a bluetooth remote. HOWEVER, if you want regionfree play and that Oppo has it, I say go for that one.

I say it depends on what you are looking for, if you want to surf the web, have wireless available for updates and BD-live, want to store music or play games i say go with ps3, but if you are just looking to watch blu's I'd go with the Oppo

If you truly don't care about games.... I can't recomend the PS3 as a blu-ray player. It is blu-tooth only.. no IR.. so you have to buy a BT to IR converter if you want to use your universal remote. Cheaper models like the Nyko blu-wave ($20) will allow you to program basic controls into your universal... but not the ability to turn the PS3 off and on via remote. More expensive models will allow you to turn the player off and on but run about $80. I don't know about the more expensive models.... but the Nyko converter never allowed me to program every function that I desired into my Harmony.

Also the PS3 does not allow you to bitstream the lossless codecs to your receiver. I don't think that makes a difference in sound quality... but bitstreaming is more convenient in that at least you can see on your receiver's display what audio track is being played. With the PS3.. all you see is PCM... so if you want to be sure you are getting the lossless tracks you have to go into the PS3 display menu.

I ended up with the Panny BD60 after my PS3 got the yellow light of death.... so I can't speak for any other standalones.

I've had the Oppo now for a few months and love it. It's performance is fantastic, especially for DVDs. It boots up and loads discs very quickly and sound quality is amazing, even breathing new life into CDs.

The PS3 has great advantages, in that you can also store pictures and music on it as well as video files, and connect the the internet through wireless internet. Also, if you live in America, I believe you can buy HD movies to download through the PS Store. Again, you say you don't care about games, so the extra money could flunk for you, but it has the above features I mentioned which could push a selling point.

In my opinion,If thats the 3 your looking at then i would recommend Oppo for blu-ray and DVDs.

If you want a video game system as well get the Ps3.
For strictly Blu movies and DVDs Oppo will do a better job for you.

If I had the extra cash, I would sell my PS3 and get the Oppo BDP-83 in a heartbeat!

I think it's in Japan as well, but you would have to double check on that one.

I'd say go with the PS3. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years and no problems, it works like a dream.

I would. They're nowhere near as failure prone as some game consoles... but don't seem to be as reliable as the average standalone player.

I have a PS3 and an oppo but PS3 in the HT is strictly for games and as a backup blu-ray player. If you don't play games I highly recommend the BDP-83. I love it - it's just as fast if not faster than the PS3 with load times. The PQ for me I can't tell with Blu-rays but is better for sure with DVD's. I also prefer bitstreaming the new codecs rather than having the player do it. And last it is silent unlike the PS3 which could get pretty loud at times.. maybe not the 80gb's but my 60gb sure does.

I've had my Oppo since I was in the second group of beta testers, and I wouldn't trade it for any other player out there.

Thanks for the responses, some really good feedback. I think the Oppo will be my best choice. As enticing as it is to be able to stream youporn.com directly to my plasma i think the overall quality and superior sound wins out in the end.
