Hi,
I'm after some info on the Troy Theatrical Cut that was released in Greece on Blu Ray. Does anyone have it? If so, where did they get if from? What UK language optios does it have? Is the transfer on par with the widely released Directors Cut? Many thanks in advance. |

It looks like the Greek release is the same disc as the Polish version (and it's other releases as well).

Around €17 (not including shipping) is the best I've found so far.
1 2 The Polish release is also available in a digibook (I think) or in a 3-pack with 300 and Clash of the Titans. Last edited by knifethrower; 02-15-2012 at 02:14 PM. |

I'm almost certain thats a misprint, the BDInfo on the Polish site shows the full runtime and Czech audio and subtitles. Unless Warner released a weird cut down Czech version of the movie and still felt the need to put Czech on the Greek and Polish discs I'm going to guess it's a printing error.

For those interested, my Polish Troy Blu-Ray came in today. I ordered it from Punkt44.pl. It is, in fact, the theatrical cut and is equipped with a DolbyTrue HD track. Sadly, my copy is not a digibook, though it looked to mimic the German "Premium Collection." It is merely a slipcover. The disc is essentially a carbon copy of the HD-DVD release with the same extras, but with more language/subtitle options.

Hello. I am very happy to hear that a Blu-ray exists of the theatrical cut of this film (as I can't stand the horrible Director's Cut, with its random music, whereas the music of the theatrical cut is so stirring and so much a part of the power of this film).
Does anyone happen to have either an Amazon or eBay link to where I can purchase either the Greek Blu-ray or Polish Blu-ray of the Troy theatrical cut? I'd be very grateful. Thank you. |

I just obtained my blu-ray of the theatrical cut of Troy, thanks to the link provided above, and I just wish to express my sincerest gratitude to the members of this forum for making me aware of it. I'm sure that I would never have found it otherwise.
The quality is fantastic. The picture quality is superb, and the colors are all true and natural (blues are blue, not cyan; and whites are pure white, not sallow), without any of the teal/green and yellow grading that was inexplicably added to director's-cut blu-ray releases. But best of all, the soundtrack is the original score, by turns haunting (the choral chanting) and thrilling (the drumbeats accompanying the Achilles-Hector duel). I've always considered this to be one of the finest of all movie scores, one that somehow gives the impression of the Bronze Age -- as if this were what music might have actually sounded like in ancient Greece (again, especially the eerie voice parts and the drumming). I still can't fathom why it was replaced for the director's cut, but to my mind, doing so took away one of the very best aspects of the film and diminished it greatly. No Polish subtitles mar the English-language version of the film. I'm so glad that this hard-to-find edition exists and that I was made aware of it. To my mind, this movie (Troy) is Hollywood's other great period-action film of recent decades besides Braveheart, rather than Gladiator (which I've always disliked, but which, for some reason, is often mentioned in the same breath as Braveheart). |

Anyone know how the colors are on here? I would love the correct colors on the Director's Cut, too lol https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Troy-Blu-ray/11581/ Last edited by JohnCarpenterLives; 01-29-2020 at 10:26 PM. |

Get this: Audio: English, Polish, Thai, Czech, Hungarian, Russian, Turkish (the last two are Dolby 2.0, the others 5.1) Titles: Polish, Lithuania, Latvian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Portuguese, Chinese, Icelandic, Korean, Slovenian, Thai, Arabian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Hebrew, Greek, Estonian, Czech, Croatian, SDH English Wow! Now, that's a whole U.N. right there. But they're the fortunate ones, because they get to experience this film in its best version. Everyone else is out of luck. (Well, not really -- I don't know what other languages the Greek blu-ray of the Theatrical Cut might feature, because that's the only other blu-ray of the Theatrical Cut I've heard of, and I don't have it, nor do I know where one might get it. There doesn't seem to be an Amazon Greece.) Last edited by karsten; 01-30-2020 at 02:04 AM. |

It's just my opinion, but I don't mind losing the extra material on the Director's Cut in favor of getting the stirring original soundtrack and the beautiful original color timing of the Theatrical. I have the Director's Cut on DVD; I barely made it through a single viewing. Ugh. The perfect version would indeed be Director's Cut but with the Theatrical score (supplemented for the extra scenes) and the original Theatrical color timing. But the way things are going, I doubt that that will ever exist; 4k releases seem to love being tealified to utterly parodic levels. So this Polish blu-ray (or the Greek, wherever it is) will remain the only way to truly enjoy this awesome film, IMO, and I'm so grateful that I was directed to it. |
