I was flicking through the web on some information on Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and everywhere I went, you would see G1 fans pop up and claim that this film will automatically be bad purely because the robots in it do not resemble the robots from the Generation 1 TV Series. Now I realise that Bay's Transformers series aren't the best films in the world, but that's not down to using different concepts for characters.
It got me to thinking though, is pleasing a fanbase the impossible task of films to date? Sure, sometimes the criticism is deserved for leaning too far away from the comics, or just warping some characters too much (like the criticism of making Sandman [Show spoiler] in Spider-Man 3, since the fact that [Show spoiler] ). But some films just get attacked for the hell of it.Take The Dark Knight, for example. It's probably the most popular comic book movie, financially and critically, the general public and fans alike. But in May of 2008, before the film had been released, the Got Milk campaign released a poster of the full suit for Batman, and fanboys went nuts. If you don't believe me check out this link - http://www.superherohype.com/feature...ights-got-milk My personal favourites of the comments are the one who claim that this decision will kill the film, and that it won't even get past $300m. There's even comparisons to Power Rangers (Green Goblin, anyone?). But fans don't even just complain about being too distant from the source, they complain about being to similar. Enter Watchmen. Fans give it so much grief, constantly going on and on about how Snyder had ruined the film by slavishly recreating the book panel by panel, and then later complain about him changing the ending. For a recent example, look at this years comic book movies. We have Thor, which is ruined because Heimdall will be played by a black actor, and using an actor from a Soap Opera isn't justice enough to Thor (despite Chris looking excellent in the role). Captain America? How dare they portray to red stripes on his suit as red straps? Where are the wings on his helmet? Consider that film worthless. And whose idea was it to cast Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern? We've seen a short trailer in which Hal makes at least two jokes ( ![]() (Keep in consideration the last paragraph were not my opinions, just the most popular internet rants) What do you think? |
