Lightbulb Books you'd like to see adapted?

I think this should be interesting!

At the moment I'm working on an adaptation of a book no-ones read by an author no-ones heard of, the books called Severance Package and I think that it would actually make a very dark and violent action comedy, granted with a few touch ups on characters and the loss of the not-so-subtle terrorism undertones that doesn't go anywhere and focus on the great enclosed storyline.

So any books any of you like to see get changed into a book?

Another one just to kick things off, I'd like to see more Chuck Palahniuk books adapted, specifically Invisible Monsters, the book he wrote before Fight Club which is a bit like Fight Club only more aimed at women's role in society, media and consumerism, and a tone more complex

The newer written "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss would be a great adaptation to film.

Post Book to film...

I know Dean Koontz's novels haven't been given great treatment in the transfer from book to film, But I'd love to see "The Taking" adapted. It's a very chilling and dark book. Lots of creativity to bring to the screen... If done properly.

Default Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse

I guess not a lot of you know this book, but Hermann Hesse's "Siddhartha" is what I want to see directed by no other than Terrence Malick.
That would be PERFECT!

Off the top of my head:

"Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card. I believe it is being made into a movie as we speak...

"Childhood's End" by Arthur C Clarke might be interesting.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein.

"The Subtle Knife" and "The Amber Spyglass" by Phillip Pullman (a reboot of "The Golden Compass" might be called for).

While not really a book, I read the novelization for "The Dig" video game, which was based on a film idea by Spielberg. With today's technology, it should be possible to bring it to life, and it would be awesome.

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett would make a great film. I believe there has been some talk of it, but I haven't heard anything about it in years.

I would like to see The Passage by Justin Cronin. I think Ridley Scott bought the rights. My bet is that we'll see this one eventually.

Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian has been talked about a number of times but nothing solid yet. It's pretty violent and might just be unfilmable. I would love to see somebody try though.

The Catcher in the Rye by Salinger. If I could, I'd personally ask John Cameron Mitchell to direct.

It's a crime that this hasn't been made into a film yet.

Well I can understand why it hasn't and I sympathize with Salinger but I do think there are interesting filmmakers working who would respectfully pay homage to the material and do right by the author's work. JCM would be a daring choice and would really hit it right between the eyes. A more obvious choice would be Sam Mendes.

Yea, there seems to be a plethora of sci-fi masterpieces that have not been filmed yet.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever

Given the anti-Hero nature of the protagonist, and the very Tolkien-esque world he adventures in (and the likely humongous budget required to give it life), there is unfortunately little chance that a good adaptation will ever see the light of day.

Let alone the two following series: The Second Chronicles, and the Last Chronicles (last book of this last series expected next year. Maybe).

Also, from the same author (Stephen Donaldson), The Gap series. Odds are even worse, because the Hero (in - it's a she) is of a far more controversial nature even, and the setting is Hardcore Space Opera.

Against all odds, I still hope

Without a doubt a big budget, NO COMPROMISE adaptation of:
Brave New World
1984
Dune
And I'm talking an auteur directing: Fincher, Nolan, Cuaron.
