Default Opinions on a cheap sub?

Was curious to what you guys think of this?

I'm not really sure if it has any x-over controls or anything, would have to go look at it. Even if it doesn't have a x-over control, i should be able to control that via AVR anyway, right? The spec sheet is saying 100 Watts total (judging by the rest of the site), I'd guess the RMS would be around 50 or so. I'm a little concerned that it weighs 11lbs lighter than the psw10 (15 vs 26).

This thing would be paired with some RB-61's to use as my "Computer Speakers", and hopefully cure my need for a sub (for now ).

But for 60$ I don't really see a downside... Other than it could catch fire and burn my house down

I don't know anything on the manufacturer or that website, so I rely on the old saying...you get what you pay for...so buyer beware! It only gets down to 41Hz, so if your budget is soo tight that it must stay around or under $100, the Polk PSW10 might be a better choice IMO.

Could you raise your budget a bit? They have some really nice subs for a low price. You can get a nice 10" Acoustic Audio sub for $168 shipped. I've heard a lot of good things about them and they're recommended to others all the time here on this site.

Check out the Acoustic Audio thread

1. You can get that 10" Acoustic Audio subwoofer cheaper than $168on Ebay.
2. AA does not ship to Canada.

His best bet is with Parts Express. They ship to Canada.

Dayton Subwoofers:

The Speaker company is another option, but I don't know if they ship to Canada.

Ahh, thanks BD.

Quick question, how do any of these compare to the PSW10? I got my PSW10 on Black Friday for $100 and used it in my bedroom until I upgraded to my A2-300. It was great while I used it, just curious how much better these are than the Polk.

The website is actually for their stores, which are all over Canada. I've purchased from them before and would actually prefer them over Futureshop/Best Buy.

The only thing I found out about Vector Research is that they went bankrupt when their parent company did a few years ago. Apparently the company has been around since the 80's

I looked at Acoustic Audio a few days ago, drooling over their subs. Then was heartbroken when I found out they don't ship to Canada.

Thanks BD for the links. Any ideas on how much it would cost to ship the ES8? Wow, does that thing really weigh 42lbs?

As for The Speaker Company:

We only ship products to the United States (lower 48) at this time.

They have pretty powerful amplifiers and go down to 20Hz. This is something I tested and verified. I am sure PSW10 can do that.

I don't know their shipping rates to Canada. Parts Express also sells their products on Amazon Marketplace. I have found the shipping to be cheaper when you order from Amazon. Perhaps, you can even find Dayton subwoofers on Amazon Canada.

After looking around a bit, I see that I would be paying more for shipping than the actual sub. I may go with the Vector sub just to tide me over till I move to the states next year. Then I would pretty much be free to go with any company I wanted. I'll try to go have a look/listen at it tomorrow or the next day. Brett is giving me ideas about a DIY project with the amp down the road.

Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated. I'll keep you posted on if I get it or not, and my thoughts on it.

Big Daddy, I don't believe you have this speaker manufacturer on your list.

I added Soundstage to the list. Thank you.

Long Version:
I went down to the local Visions this morning with the intention to listen/look at the Vector sub. My expectations weren't exactly high as the sub was 60$, and after a couple minutes I decided it wasn't even worth that. So I ended up talking to one of the sales guys for a few minutes until he offered me a PSW10 for 145$CAD! I was pretty much sold when he said that. Only bad part is I have to wait for them to get a shipment, as they are currently out of stock. Not that big of a deal, beats waiting/paying for shipping one from the US.

Short Version: Walked into Visions empty handed. Walked out of Visions with a Receipt for a PSW10.

So it looks like I'll be enojying a Polk sub in a week or so

I listened to the Soundstage speakers while I was there for giggles. They aren't my cup of tea... Sound very warm with little clarity. Similar priced Polks would destroy them, and I'm not even a fan of the Polk speakers sound.

Did you listen to the PSW10 or was it a blind buy?

I listened to it for roughly 10 minutes or so. Sounded pretty good and held it's own against some of the higher models they had.

when i was in your situation a few months ago, i picked up a polk psw 10, and after hearing about 5 other subs in the $150 and below price ( USD ) it was a clear standout.. It doesnt go super low ( but low enough ) , but it gets very loud , and sounds very good.. I didnt like it at first, but after i broke it in and used about 1 1/2 pounds of poly and fond the right placement , it was great.. Might pick one up again if they have any deals coming up, if its under $100 again..

SO i think youll really like it, cant beat it for under $100...
