Could someone please help me out? I have a BUDGET receiver that I am using Pioneer VSX-D514 that I would like to have setup properly. I am running an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. Here is my equipment if it helps.

I have:

2. PS3 60GB
3. Vizio 50" Plasma P50HDTV10A
4. Polk CS1 Center Speaker
5. Pioneer Front & Rear Speakers

well it appears you have it set up correctly, Optical out of PS3 to Receiver Optical input for audio, you will only get DD and DTS 5.1, there will be no HD Audio. Then HDMI from PS3 to HDTV, set in the PS3 to output audio via optical and video via hdmi. all your speaker get hooked up normally.

Is there any certain settings I need to do on the PS3? I want the best possible sound I can get from my system. I know I can NOT get all the high def sound unless I upgrade to a new receiver. Any help is appreciated.

Make sure you have the audio settings on Bitstream or you're not going to get DD 5.1 and DTS

Also leave Linear PCM 2Ch. 88.2 kHz and 176.4 kHz unchecked as they might damage your speakers
