Question Which PS3 would be better to get? The PS3 fat or PS3 slim?

I want to get another PS3, but i cant decide on which one is better? Which one would be more reliable?

Slim unless you want a fat one that has backwards compatibility(mostly speaking for the 60GB).

Something else to add to the mix:

Or, rather, when you don't hear it. This was the one thing that Nick and I were most impressed with. This thing is quiet. Scary quiet. "WTF, is it even on?" quiet. Nick thinks the optical drive makes just a bit more noise than the original when inserting or ejecting a disc, but it didn't seem any louder to me. Either way, once your game or movie is in there, the thing is virtually silent.

Keep in mind we were pretty busy with this today and didn't exactly get to jump into any eight-hour gaming sessions, but we certainly played it. You'll probably be as impressed with its inaudibility as we were. I'd venture to say it's even quieter than the Wii.

I'd go for the slim definitely. If you want you can wait for a little bit to make sure it's reliable but I have a feeling the failure rate of the slim will be lower then the fat.
Less power, smaller, lighter, quieter, bitstream HD audio (if you care), Bravia sync are on slim. Missing Other OS install feature though.

the only fat PS3 you can find in stores is the old 40g with the 80g & 120g HD in it. So are there any Pros on getting the slim over the fat? other then it being slim!

Did you forget to read the previous posts? A few reason have already been stated...

Also, the 80GB and 120GB have smaller GPU precessors than the 40GB and use less powe...

Just wondering if the Slim PS3 will have any overheating issues because of it's smaller size. I remember hearing complaints from people when the PS2 slim first debuted and there was some problems with the system overheating because of the fan or no fan. I am planning on purchasing the PS3 slim but just want to see if there are any glitches that needs to be worked out.

Honestly I dont think any of us can say for sure...since Slim isn't actually out. But going purely by specs, Slim is the way to go.

Keep in mind too, soon Slim will be the face of the PS3, with Fat being a relic.

Are you kidding me? I can put my slim ps2's in the oven and they don't overheat.

U know what though ps1 and ps2 slims, if u use them for a long time, they over heat because they have no fan. I know what a bunch of u r going to say, just buy a fan but why should u or i buy a fan. If ur paying for something it's expected to work a certain way. Y should u or i have to buy an extra piece so it works properly. This ps3 has no fan correct? So it will probably give a few hours to watch a blu ray or two but hit it with a long span of time say playing a video game for hours and watch it overheat like the ps1 or ps2 slims. Fat or not, the 60 and mgs bundle 80 gig does it ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. So many people *****ing and moaning about fan noise, just blast ur damn sound and u won't here it. Or put it somewhere low and away.

And for those with the b/c issue, not everyone wants to have 2 or 3 systems like a ps3 and ps2 plus whatever else u have all connected in bulk like that. The lesser the better. I paid to get the most i can out of the least trouble and hassle, if ya get my drift.

I'm really liking the sound of this. I have one of the backward compatible 80 GB models, but it's pretty loud when the fan kicks into jet-engine gear. I might get one of the new slim models for this reason alone. The bitstreaming feature is nice too.
