Default PS3 slim" thread

Just curious, with the latest news of the PS3 slim coming out in the first week of Sept and a price drop to 299.99, who will FINALLY buy a PS3 as a blu ray player?

I honestly, will probably buy one now for my bedroom. I already own the Panasonic BD 35 for living room.

If it looks decent and they corrected the fan problem then yes, I will.

@ this price, i won't be as worried if my original one takes a crap on me now...:knocks on wood:.

still hope it doesn't but $300 is a bit more reasonable than $400.

I kinda like the "old" version and it sitting on the side would fit great on my tv stand so not sure if I will pick up the new one.

edit: Now I see there is a $24 stand to put the new one on it's side, much better for me.

Yeah this will be great for my bedroom. I was going to buy a standalone for there but why not! That way I can play games in there too!

The fan problem only exists for certain models. I think it's the 60GB version. My 40GB has no such problem. Failed lasers on the other hand...

I have an 80gig one so I will pass for now, unless (knock on wood) it dies after the warranty is over or if I get an LCD in the bedroom and need a BD there.
But I'm not a supporter of watching TV or movies in the bedrooms. Its better to have a TV room that the family sits and watch together, if each person has their own TV in their room then no one is sitting together. But that is a discussion for another time.

Now that I found it the Slim version can bitstream codecs, I have a reason now to return my standalone player and purchase the Slim PS3!!

Fan problem? the only version with fan noise was the old 60g.. I have had a PS3 for nearly 2 years with no noise ever... old 40g model.. You could of had a new PS3 years ago with no fan problems.

I will be buying a 2nd one now.. new one will go in my living room and old one will go in kids room so they can play blu and stream video from my computer as well in there.

This one definitely has a chassis/body style that more closely matches standard A/V equipment. If I was in the market for a Blu-ray player, this would get a pretty serious look.

I've voiced my opinion before on how the first gen PS3 didn't really work for me and why I didn't buy it (and received plenty of subsequent flaming for it), but this one is a lot less flashy and "video gamey" than the first one. I'd probably go for it — assuming I could look at it in person before making the purchase.

Given the feature sets involved, if the first-gen PS3 didn't do anything for you...how is a Slim version more attractive?

If they added/improved the following, I may consider it for my next blu-ray player.

1. Provide the ability to send HD bitstream audio.
2. RF remote compatibility without dongle accessory.
3. Eject button on remote.
4. Improved upconverting capabilities.
5. Bumped up the WiFi to N
