If they didn't know who did it it's possible that it was an accident.

Agreed. This seems a little premature (no surprise, Los Angeles!) given that it would be next to impossible to *prove* the doctor was the one who gave him a fatal dose.

I love the logic here. If a drug user obtains illicit substances, and overdoses, it's a suicide. But if a celebrity uses subterfuge to procure vast amounts of prescription drugs, and then willingly misuses that medication and overdoses, it's a homicide. (Unless you're Heath Ledger.)

If its ruled a homicide doesn't that mean the doctor had intentions of killing him? I always thought if it was involuntary then it would be manslaughter.

You got your terms mixed up. A homicide is the killing of one human being by another. Manslaughter is a legal term, homicide is not. There are various degrees of homicide, manslaughter is one of those degrees. Intent is taken into account in the degree of homicide for which a person suspected of homicide is charges.

If anything, I think it would be considered "criminally negligent homicide". But a coroner can't determine that. Again, I have no idea what they're smoking out in LA... but I can guess.

I read this somewhere:
Quote:
Defining Jackson's death as homicide saves Llyod's of London from having to pay double (2x) on the $17.5M Business Completion Insurance policy that Phil Anschutz had on the Michael Jackson 2009 Tour. Manslaughter is defined as "accidental death" which would trigger the "double indemnity" clause of the policy.

Obviously, Anschutz's lawyers beat the "drug clause" in the policy, which would have voided the payoff if it was determined that Jackson was not able to complete the tour due to self-inflicted drug use. So Anschutz conceded on the "manslaughter" provision to Llyods, by getting Dr. Conrad hung out dry on "Murder". But ultimately, the judgement + jail time will be reduced to misdemeanor treatment. Because I bet Conrad really was trying to do the best he could for MJ who was an addict and out-of-control.

Yes, that is Phil Anschutz of Denver who owns Staples Center, the Home Depot Center, and the Major League Soccer franchise. And is the 31st richest man in the US.

Ahhhh, thank you, I understand now. So a "homicide" can be 1st degree murder, 2nd degree, voluntary/involuntary manslaughter, etc.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles. Please refrain from putting down the city I love. It's not the cities fault there are some idiots in it. There are idiots everywhere.

Everyone really needs to just let this one go. The man is dead so move on.

Homicide is the broader term. There are 3 types of homicide: justifiable, excusable, and criminal.

Criminal homicide is then divided into: murder, voluntary manslaughter, and involuntary manslaughter.

Then there's felony murder, which pretty much means you're royally f'd if you commit it.

Actually, I was referring to the officials in LA (ie. police, coroner, DA's office), as these are the ones responsible for this investigation and its questionable conclusions. I'm assuming these are the same idiots you're also alluding to?

Actually I blame the media. The others are slightly to blame too though because of the high profile nature of the deceased.

They need to let it go.
