The Theatrical Picture and Audio Film Presentation Thread.

I would like to start this thread so we can post a review of the picture and audio presentation of the film we just saw theatrically, to see how closely the Blu-ray release resembles the intended look of the film and what might be issues brought on by the transfer the studio did. I thought about this when I read some people complaining that the Blu-ray release of 'Inception' looked too soft, but in reality the Blu-ray release looked very similar to the theatrical presentation, it wasn't artificially softened. While we might be able to recall how a movie looked a few months after seeing it, I think it's best to post how the movie itself looked right after seeing. The main purpose of this thread is to post how a movie originally looked so if there are some issues on a new Blu-ray release that we may think it's the cause of a studio tampering with the image, we will be able to see if those issues were present in the theatrical presentation.

I know the biggest issue with this will be how greatly the picture quality varies from theater to theater, so post only if the theater you go to actually presents a good picture, not if all of their films are out of focus. Also post what issues are present with the actual print the theater is presenting. Since color banding or compression artifacts won't be an issue in the theater like dirt and print damage won't be issues on the Blu-ray release, we should avoid looking for that. Lets just mainly focus on the actual presentation of the film, how sharp/detailed it is and the amount of grain or lack there of. Mention the colors and black levels if you can but that might be too much to look for and it will likely distract you too much from the film. So the level of detail and the amount of grain should be the easiest thing to catch. Also mention the audio experience.


If people decide to post in this thread, movies might get lost with all the different reviews. The best way to look up the movie you are looking for to compare it to the Blu-ray release, to see what people actually saw at the theater, will be to use the search feature in this thread. Type the name of the movie you are looking for and search the posts closest to the release date of the movie.
