If I had to pick between those two, I would pick the Sony.

Have you considered a PS3? or the new Panasonic? (Not sure if the panny is out yet?)

So don't play any games on it, I barely do....you'll be paying just as much anyway for a deck itself. If you don't go with the ps3 though the sony bdp-s300 would be my pick

if your dropping 6 bills you may as well throw them at the PS3... it's top three best BD players. and i think it looks better than the players. get the bluetooth remote and your set.

I have the Sony BDP-S300 and i'm very happy with it, beautiful picture. I'm sure the samsung is a great player too, I just don't have any experiance with it.

If you belong to Costco, pick up the Sony BDP-S301....same as 300 just one digit off to designate where it's being sold.....comes with a 1.5m HDMI cable in box and price is $449.

Get the PS3 anyway and when the gaming evolves to be better than 360 (and it will) then you're all set.

Aye, get the PS3

You get a good player, and it can also play games if you want! even if you never intend to play any games.

Also, with the sony network, you will be able to download any firmware upgrades for the player with ease. Unlike stand alone modles. Which would be far more difficult to upgarde its firmware.

The price is really close to the other players, and you at least can play games if you wanted to.

If you're so hooked on Microsoft, then why don't you buy an HD-DVD player. I've heard that they're real cool and super awesome.

Or you could just pick up a PS3 and get one of the best BD players and have the abilty to play all the PS3 exclusive games. Oh, and by the way a PS3 is going to take up the same shelf space as a BD stand alone. But if you can't own two gaming systems.....

PS3 is the best player right now, and with the frequent updates it only gets better.

Good choice dude! I was wanting to get a 360 but I wanted Blu-Ray over HD-DVD so I decided at the time to get a PS3 just for Blu-Ray. But its so much more than a Blu-Ray and Game system. You can views photos, mp3, and access the internet plus more than just a standard blu-ray player. You will be impressed. I was.

My only problem with using a PS3 as a BD player is the fact that it's bluetooth and cannot be used with my Logitech Harmony.

Is there any type of adapter that can be set up to make it remote-friendly? (Other than Sony's BT remote?)

Would it kill you to have an extra remote?

People can be so silly when it come to remote controls.

I went with PS3, not only was it the cheapest player at the time, but in my eyes the best one thus far, I believe it will support BD-J won't it? Or are the Pirates movies BD-J? Sorry hi def digest had so many hd dvd fanboys I could never get this question answered.

Yes PS3 can play BD-J. Some of the Fox titles I rented had BD-J games and of course POTC.
