Pioneer VSX-819H-K
Pioneer VSX-819H-K THREAD.jpg I think I am going to pick up a reciever tomorrow. I am inbetween on both of these recievers and have done a comparison between the two. After reading through some early reviews off of AVS I have heard of one over heating and dieing within the first 30 days, and just the basic new kid on the block connection issues. I like the fact the Yamaha is a 7.1 as it gives a few more options. By looking over my equipment that is all set up by HDMI connections, which one is the better of the two for my soon to be setup? I like the connection bindings on the Pioneer, but like all of the features on the Yamaha, but the Yamaha I feel is alittle less "sexy" thank the Pioneer. Pioneer does make some sexy receiver's.
I personally think they make the best looking units. But besides that its up in the air. Your looking at two great receiver's. If i had to choose,of course i would pick Yamaha. But no one can make this decision for you my friend. I say Yamaha. The next member says Pioneer and were both right. Go with what you think would do the better job.Put trust in one of those companies there both worthy units. For the record Yamaha receiver's never let me down and iam very, very satisfied with the audio it puts out Good luck |

I think in this situation I would go Yamaha too becauseof the 7.1 over 5.1, but I will be honest that at this price range you are getting an entry level receiver and I don't think there is really much if any difference between yamaha, pioneer, sony, or onkyo at the $399 and below price tag. IMO.

Between the two I'd go with the Yamaha since its 7.1, but you may want to consider ordering online and get the VS-919HK 7.1 receiver instead. Its $399 shipped on Vann's right now. They even have the VSX-1019AHK 7.1 receiver for $459 shipped which is an even better option.

Well I like the fact that the yamaha has the 7.1 which has upgradeable in the future written all over it, and all im looking for is a basic reciever to power and use the below items all through HDMI connections. I'm not looking for a stand alone receiver that needs to be used in a designated HT room. It will be used in my living room like alot of people have theres on this forum. Recievers are expensive and the last step in getting all of my peices put together finally, so I dont want to get a bad deal in the long run, like alot of people dont. I think I am going to sit on the decision and let the sale of the yamaha go and keep doing some reviews and price watching.

If you are looking for a good receiver on the cheap then take a look at THIS 7.1 Panasonic which has been slashed to $299 shipped from JR. This receiver was criticized for the initial $699 price tag, but for half the money its an excellent deal. Newegg has the same deal HERE. Newegg also has the Yamaha RX-V565 for $319 shipped.

Im a super happy with the way they look and smell right out of the box, but I have no idea how they sound as I am still waiting to buy a reciever and have no way of even testing the speakers out. So as soon as I get everything all hooked up and working ill have to report how everything sounds. I'm sure ill have more questions before now and then

Amazon is a very good place to order from. They have excellent customer service, and all warranties are good from them or through a certified dealer. Their shipping has been getting slower though in the last few months, and things that used to take 2-3 days, now seem to take at least a week or more, unless you sign up for Prime, which delivers things in a day or two, but it costs additional $$$ to have this service. I do recommend them to order anything from based on my experience.

Am I a moron? So I go into a best buy tonight to just look at recievers, these two particuarly. The BB has a Magnolia theather in it, so the guys working there should know whats going on. Well I had one guy tell me that the 819 will not accept audio through HDMI and will only transfer it through either fiber optic or component. Is this correct for this reciever? I read the specs and it says that it will allow audio through HDMI..... Seriously?
