Default Now that 3.0 is out, what's left?

Ok ok, BESIDES cross game chat, cross game invites, and party chat. What other features/improvements would you guys like to see for XMB? I love the XMB but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

1.) The ability to create my own folders to categorize my music, videos, etc. I'd like to clean each category up so I don't have so many icons columned for each one of them.

2.) The ability to use my Home avatar as my XMB avatar.

3.) Fix the friends list (less ugly).

4.) More visualizers during music playback.

5.) Not really sure if this would be a XMB function but, some games have the ability to run upscaled at 1080p. In order to do that you have to go into display settings and disable 720p and 1080i. It would be nice if games could just automatically recognize your tv's display capabilities and adjust accordingly without having us, the user, having to go in and manually adjust the settings. If this is a game developer thing and not a XMB thing, then perhaps Sony could improve the in-game XMB functionality to where we can make this adjustment from within the game instead of having to exit the game, make the adjustment, and then go back into the game.

6.) I know this is a pipe dream but I'm still holding out hope that Sony gives us the option to boot directly into Home from the XMB and then have most of the main XMB funtionality from within Home like game launching, music playback, video playback, access to the PSN store, etc.

I wouldn't mind booting from Home if it took the same amount of time to Start Home and Load a game as it does from starting your PS3 now and loading a game. However, I do not think this is possible right now and always shudder whenever I see it mentioned.

1.) I do that already, you just change the "album" info on the file (so I have my videos organized into "PSN Movies" "TV Shows" etc...

Not sure about the way you want that with music though, I haven't played around with music much on my PS3.

4.) They did add...ONE new visualizer since the beginning which was that shot of the Earth from space, I found that kind of neat, but they definitely need more I agree.

I want them to make it so everytime I run HOME I don't have to wait for a damn location to download AGAIN...and AGAIN

I want to be able to create folders WITHIN folders. Like say under music I would like to create a "Metallica" master folder and then within that folder have a folder for each album. Right now you can't just up and create custom folders like you can in Windows. That's what I want the ability to do.

Yeah I'm hoping the new caching and universal game launch features they are introducing in 1.3 will pave the way for this.

Again, like I said I just want it OPTIONAL. I don't want Sony to force everyone to do this because I know not everyone would like it.

I would really like the option to group friends into.. well... groups. For example, put few people into blu group that I met here, and others in other groups where I met others. Would be great.

There's only one thing I'm still longing for:

PAL playback on Japanese PS3's. I used to have a Japanese DVD player, which happened to be the same region as Europe and my European DVD's worked perfectly on it (it could handle NTSC as well as PAL). Now, I can't upconvert my Euro region 2 DVD's with my Japanese PS3

1. Custom avatars

2A. Indicator to friends that you're playing PS1/2 games.

2B. In-game xmb for said PS1/2 games.

I'd like the following, in general:
  • Ability to sort everything alphabetically (games, bookmarks, themes, friends list, etc.)
  • Ability to sort or filter the download list. I have almost 500 downloads and when trying to find the add-ons for a particular game, it's a pain having to scroll through the whole list to find all of them.
  • A one and done question with the browser so I don't have to keep answering do you want to run this plug-in
  • Wish they'd automatically download album art for display like the media players on PCs instead of having to do it manually
  • A slightly redesigned store where the PSP stuff is all in its own section instead of mixed in with the PS3 items. I don't have a PSP and really don't like having a bunch of PSP stuff scattered throughout the PS3 stuff. At least once, I've downloaded a PSP item by mistake. Of course, it's my fault since it is marked but I was doing it pretty quickly and missed the PSP labels. Plus, it's just less clutter for someone like me that has no interest in the PSP side.

So far, since it's still really new to me, I'd like to see these changes to 3.0:
  • Customization of the upper right hand status box (like being able to remove the bounding box, making it fit the rest of the interface better or maybe even allowing it to be modified with themes to have different looks)
  • Same goes for the friends list. I'd like a display that fits better with the current interface or one that could be changed with themes so it fits the style of the theme.
  • More customization of the themes allowing a mix and match of the classic and new looks.

The main thing I would like would be a better media library, optimized for navigation by DualShock: the ability to sort music/videos by artist, genre, etc; a 'jump' to certain folders--perhaps with 'A-D,' 'E-H,' etc.-type shortcuts; something slick and easy like iTunes uses would be great.

And yes, a more intuitive Friends List with better features/controls.

GOD yes!! I totally forgot about that one!! I dont' understand why Sony cannot put these plug-ins in cache to where it doesn't have to ask us every single time!

They need to add PAL support to all PS3's worldwide. It is ridiculous Sony is making such a decision, considering it costs them nothing to add it.

I'd love to be able to turn off the darn text in the box in the corner, and heck, get rid of the box. I liked it better before. In fact, I liked most everything better before 3.0 to be honest. I agree visualizers would be nice. It'd also be nice if PSN stuff could be downloaded into a folder of our choice (i.e. Demos) instead of always into unknown. Couldn't Sony categorize them by album in the store so they went straight to Games, Demos, Movies, TV shows, etc? It might not be exactly what people want, but it'd be better than dumping everything in "unknown".

And this is the reason why the XMB looks like shit now. PS3 is not an xbox. you cant have the look and features of that dashbaord on the XMB. if people want all the features that the 360 has then go buy one.

DonRSD this is not an attack on you, im speaking in general. i like the idea of knowing what your friends are doing in game.
