Default A good Blu-ray movie for new adopters

Anyone know what a good movie for a new Blu-ray adopter? Something that really shows what Blu-ray is capable of, and is why you can't go back to DVD once you you've seen it in Blu-ray. I prefer action. Thanks.

Planet Earth is a good one. I bought this last week and rented the DVD for the special features to copy. I watched the beginning of an episode on DVD the pic quality between the two is night and day.

For a movie I would have to suggest: Crank, The Prestige, Both Pirates movies, Ghost Rider.

The biggest disappointment on blu-ray so far for me has been Sleepy Hollow. If you have the DVD stick with it. I couldnt tell the diffrence in pic quality.

Welcome aboard!

The Transporter has a very interesting plot, well acted, lots of action, and looks good. I would start there.

Casino Royale is another choice. It is a James Bond flick and lives up to the previous movies in the series.

Thanks both of you. I've watched Casino Royal in theaters and loved it so I might try it. I can always rent first and compare it to a DVD copy now that I think about it.

I can't even imagine what 300 will be like on Blu-ray. I have a question, since movies filmed are way higher then Blu-ray for example, are the movie theater screen run the movie in that resolution?

Complex question as some theatres are kitted out with digital projectors which have resolutions slightly better than Blu-ray, really good theatres (big cities, and historically important ones) have got 4k digital projectors which is about quadruple the resolution of Blu-ray. Film based theatres are a bit different as it depends on the age of the reel, if the projector has been refocussed recently, and how good the projector actually is, some are really bad and can only extract 700-800 lines from the 35mm reel, others can get all the way to 1200 (which is better than Blu-ray). So how good is your local theatre?

Not sure. The theater is AMC and they've opened this year. The theater is huge taking a whole floor to it self in a mall.

Default my 2 cents

I'd recommend Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest. It has gotten great reviews all around for PQ and SQ.

Here's another forum that also has a pretty complete list of BD reviews.

Any of the POTC for all the SF and PQ and AQ are amazing. Casino Royale is a given. Crank is great for action and PQ (filmed in Hi-def).

Oh, and Congrats and Welcome!
