Anyone know what a good movie for a new Blu-ray adopter? Something that really shows what Blu-ray is capable of, and is why you can't go back to DVD once you you've seen it in Blu-ray. I prefer action. Thanks.

Planet Earth is a good one. I bought this last week and rented the DVD for the special features to copy. I watched the beginning of an episode on DVD the pic quality between the two is night and day.
For a movie I would have to suggest: Crank, The Prestige, Both Pirates movies, Ghost Rider. The biggest disappointment on blu-ray so far for me has been Sleepy Hollow. If you have the DVD stick with it. I couldnt tell the diffrence in pic quality. |

I can't even imagine what 300 will be like on Blu-ray. I have a question, since movies filmed are way higher then Blu-ray for example, are the movie theater screen run the movie in that resolution?

Complex question as some theatres are kitted out with digital projectors which have resolutions slightly better than Blu-ray, really good theatres (big cities, and historically important ones) have got 4k digital projectors which is about quadruple the resolution of Blu-ray. Film based theatres are a bit different as it depends on the age of the reel, if the projector has been refocussed recently, and how good the projector actually is, some are really bad and can only extract 700-800 lines from the 35mm reel, others can get all the way to 1200 (which is better than Blu-ray). So how good is your local theatre?

I'd recommend Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest. It has gotten great reviews all around for PQ and SQ.
Here's another forum that also has a pretty complete list of BD reviews. http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/reviews.html |

My theater is an AMC and converted one of their screens to IMAX. Saw Batman Begins and 300 on it and its amazing!
