United Kingdom Underworld Rise of the Lycans PQ Advice

I picked up the Underworld trilogy boxset this week and sat down to watch Rise of the Lycans, the third in the series (but a prequel, so I watched it first, seemed logical to me but hey). Anyway I'd read the PQ was a bit grainy, but when I started the movie I was shocked by the amount of grain and flicker, it was so distracting it was barely watchable.

I fiddled with the Picture options on my Panasonic TX-37LZD80, and putting the Picture Mode to Cinema (one of the presets) made a world of difference. The grain was gone completely, the colours steady with not a hint of flicker - it looks the business, I'd say the PQ went from 1/5 on the Normal setting I usually have the TV on to 4/5 on Cinema mode (this is just a pre-set combination of brightness, contrast etc).

Just thought I'd post this for anyone disappointed with this or any other blu's with a lot of grain and occasional flicker, a lot of TVs have different picture modes so I'm assuming this advice isn't limited to owners of the same model TV as me. I was really blown away by the difference it made.

Wasn't anything wrong with Rise Of The Lycan's PQ in the first place IMO.

I guess it depends on your TV, and what setting you had it on in the first place - if I'd had mine set on Cinema, this post would never have occurred.

You'll always notice inherently more grain in movies that are dominated by mostly dark scenes (nighttime scenes) such as Rise of the Lycans whether you play with your TV settings or not. However, it's good to know that there are certain settings that tend to rectify image quality in these situations.
