Smile Batman: Arkham Asylum review

This was one of the most well developed (comic based) Batman game I've ever played. I'm giving this one a Gold. Even though this is a thorough, well-developed game with a flowing storyline; there is nothing very innovative about the gameplay. (As in, not comparable to something like LBP)
The graphics are top-notch and the scenary depicts the world of "Batman" as it should be. You are enveloped in a world of darkness that skews your senses with the creepy chimes of the Joker in the background. Audio is awesome in this game.

Definitely one of the best; however, if you're a little strapped this month for moolah...you could prolly wait a little longer for a used copy.

Gamestop workers get to play the game before it releases...then they throw it back on the shelves as used copies

It's actually not movie based. The voice they use for Batman is from the cartoon XD

My roomie says he's almost done with the game judging by the amount of trophies he's acquired. The game says he's only completed about 10% soooo...there must be a crap load of extra stuff you've gotta look for.

I'm not a big fan of video games, but being the Batman fan that I am, I bought the collector's edition for the PS3. and I must say, it's the 1st game in a long time (since super mario 3) that I can actually enjoy playing, I love the challange maps, very addicting game. Paul Dini is the man.

this game is a lot better than i expected. the demo didnt really impress me, but after reading the great reviews i bought it and am glad i did. all the little details are excellent. i love how the cape looks when he glides in the air and when shooting the grappling gun it looks just like it should.

Mine does.

However, I still need to get a copy of Batman for me to play. I'm betting that the game will be pure Platinum, so I'll stay tuned for the time being.

My location only lets me do that with the pre-owned games if there is more than 1 copy. Besides with the new games my store usually doesn't get the game until like the day it comes out not before unless it's a street-dated game.

I've only played the demo but I'm definately going to get the full game.

Only one problem I saw though and I wonder if anyone else hates how the unreal engine makes everything look like it's made out of plastic or covered in wax? Bioshock used a modified unreal engine (2.5?) so I didn't really like the look, this is the same but just like in Bioshock the gameplay will probably help me ignore it.

I didn't notice too much as I spent most of the game playing in detective mode

Yep...barely ever took it off...

Great game, I'm voting Platinum. My first thought was Gold, but I really think it's the best game I've played in a while.

The presentation and story telling are what makes this game stand out. They are top notch and it's literally like I'm seeing a well written comic book come to life before my very eyes!

The graphics are pretty good. I think the characters are well modeled and the streets of Gotham and Arkham Asylum are portrayed perfectly. It definitely sets the proper mood for the story. However I for one believe the Unreal engine is REALLY long in the tooth. I could only imagine what this game would've looked like using something like the Uncharted engine!

Gameplay is great in some areas and not so great in others. I love the stealth/detective aspects of the gameplay! The grappling is cool and I also like how you can lower yourself upside down. However the fight sequences are too simplistic. Essentially I'm pressing square over and over. It would've been nice if they had added more combos and fighting styles. Sure you get the option to counter, take someone out from behind, glide kick, and take someone out while on the ground. However overall I feel the action got short-changed.

Overall this is easily the best Batman game since the Sunsoft game on the original NES. It's been a long time coming for sure!

I'd grade it gold but I still cannot help but think it could've been so much better!

Quick comment/question for everyone, is there a way to manually save in the game? because I noticed that was my only complaint over the entire weekend of playing. I'd get to a point where I felt good, wanted to head out for something to eat, and then I'd have to start up way back from where I had been.

(Like after taking out 6 armed hostiles and then having to take them out again)

No! At least I don't think so! It automatically saves as you walk through doors or enter other areas!

Yeaaaa the quick save actually works rather well. I never have to worry about it really.
The demo almost turned me off this game completely because I was on detective mode almost the entire time. I'm glad I picked it up though. It was the complete opposite of what I thought it was going to be.
