Default Sony BDP-S360 or Samsung 1600

Hi. I am going to buy a new Blu-ray player tonight or tomorrow. I am looking for a few opinions and and I think plenty of people here have them. I am not interested in a "Samsung sucks" or "Sony sucks" thread.
Which would you buy? Why? Do you have one of these already? If yes, how has your experience with the player been?

thanks,

Brian

In that case...go with the Sony 360. Sony stands behind its products. Samsung has been shabby with its customer support.

I think I am leaning toward the 360. HHgregg has it on sale for $263.

Go with the Sony. They are more reliable than Samsung and Sony's support of their players is very good. Samsung's players are feature packed but their reliablity and customer support (service) leave a lot to be desired..

I picked up the 360 today. I will post my experiences with it in the Sony BDP-S360 master thread.

Thanks for the input.

Samsung's BDP-1600 is a million times more reliable than its predecessors. I would never have bought a Samsung until I saw a great deal on it.

Im about to get a 1600 myself but then I see a bunch of reviews on Amazon from disgruntled owners complaining about everything ranging from overly distracting fan noise to the player not being able to play some of the latest BD's like Quantum Of Solace. Then I hear their customer service leaves much to be desired. I own a 1400 right now and it has served me well for a little over 7 months, no complaints at all.

that Amazon deal is too great to pass up though. If any owners would care to offer up an opinion, it would be greatly appreciated.

Try some other forums as well. Here is a thread I found on the 1600:

I went with the Sony BDP-S360 and I love it. I had to work out a few HDMI kinks (which you can read about in the review thread), but the player looks and performs flawlessly.
I did sit down with my Mom a few minutes ago to help her order the Samsung 1600. She just got a Vizio 32 inch and the Amazon deal was just too good to pass up for her.

My first BR player, the 1600, will arrive on Tuesday. Hope it was the right choice! I was considering the same Sony, but the promo on the 1600 was too good to pass up.

I'll be surprised if the S360 doesn't continue to impress you going forward. It's going on almost two weeks for me now and it is a very good player for the buck IMHO. I cannot even think what any big negatives are regarding this player. No eject button on the remote certainly isn't and some may not be happy with SD DVD conversion but it at least on par with the other player's I do own for that.

Cool One difference ... to Know

Dear all,
I think the main difference, at least for me, is the ability of Samsung P1600 to read DIVX and AVI. I have a colection of old 300AVIS (vHS) films I want to be able to see with my future BlueRay. Trying to decide for integration (HT=Sony, TV=Sony Bravia 40' LCD, ... etc) or to ability to read my old DIVX and AVIs created formerly.
I am trying to decide for one or another, but if I choose the new sony to integrate perfectly (and maybe get better quality), I will have to keep my old DVD reader (connected through compoonents cables instead of HDMI) to see my collection.
I don't know yet, here in Brazil both are at the same price.
But Sony Brazil confirmed me that sony is not able to read divx/avi
Hope it helps

Regards
Rui
