Default Saving Private Ryan/LOTR Extended Cut

Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to the forums here and also to Blu-Ray in general. Though I have owned a PS3 since it launched, I haven't really gotten into Blu-Ray because of the cost, but since prices are down now I have switched almost exclusively to BDs. I am looking at my extensive DVD catalog and wondering which ones I need to repurchase on BD. One such title is Saving Private Ryan, does anyone know when this is planned to be released or have any information whatsoever on this release? Also does anyone have any information on when the extended cut versions of the LOTR trilogy is planning to be released? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. The search function works wonders. Also check out the wish list section for SPR. SPR has no announcement but LOTR Extended Ed. will come in a little more than a year. Theatrical is set for Nov. 3rd.

I did a search for SPR and all I got was the page that said if you want to search for Batman: The Dark Knight type Batman in the search field. Sorry I posted in the wrong thread, but thank you for the info.

Who is the distributor for SPR in the USA? Please don't say Universal, as they did the recent Gladiator fiasco...

Universal has done some AMAZING work with other titles though.... There aren't many that are batting a thousand with their releases.

It was Dreamworks/Universal on DVD. Does that mean Paramount will handle the blu-ray as they did with Gladiator?

Also, let's not get ahead of ourselves, here. One less-than-perfect title should not diminish all the great titles a particular company has released, nor does it really have any bearing on how future titles will be in the quality department.

Gladiator seems to be the exception, rather than the rule when it comes to both Paramount and Universal.

That's a good question but I'm pretty sure it will be through Universal/Dreamworks.

There are rumors of a Czech release in late September for Saving Private Ryan, but I have yet to see it be confirmed. I am keeping my fingers crossed about it though.

I for one would consider Saving Private Ryan to be in the second wave for the Sapphire Series.
If I were to choose the next three titles in the second wave they'd be:
APOCALYPSE NOW (Both Theatrical/Redux via seamless branching. But wait Redux is reframed to 2.00:1... Second disc containing all special features including more.)
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (Just everything which needs to be on this release should be on it.)
And a third non-related title such as Forrest Gump was to the first wave. NOT Titanic. Perhaps Minority Report? Nah.

With SPR, I don't think the problem is the distributor, its Spielberg. Just about none of his films are available on Blu for whatever reason he has.

Except for Crystal Skull.....and that one looked great. Spielberg seems like the kind of guy who would really get into how the transfer looks on Blu and not disappoint.

The only thing I don't like about this is the packaging. Call me anal, but I hope they re-release it in a digibook so it doesn't stick out so much on my shelf.
