Default Memorex Firmware Coming

For those of use that are now bemoaning the lack of upgrades for the memorex MVBD2510, tech support claims that finally (after over 7 months) a new firmware is to be released, within the next two weeks.

Let this be a warning to anyone thinking of buying a cheapo blu ray player.

DON'T!!!

The Blu Ray standard is a changing, evolving standard, requiring updates to your player. If you buy one from a company like Memorex that is utterly lax in providing updates, You're going to be very unhappy!

I just rented two movies, both of which are unplayable with the Dec 24th firmware (Quantum of Solace and Slumdog Millionaire).

In short: I WISH I BOUGHT A SONY !!!! it was not worth saving less than a hundred bucks to get this poorly supported piece of junk.

Best of luck

Andy

I've got the memo 2511, and after the Feb '09 firmware update, it works much better. However, the $98 Magnavox I just got from Walmart blows it away without a doubt.

Thumbs down Memorex MVBD2510 Firmware update for July 09

So,I see these posts are a bit old, however just an update on the "quality" of this Memorex POS.On my 3rd attempt, I finally had the player "accept" the disc as a firmware disc.Only thing I have noticed is that now, instead of the corny giant memorex logo upon startup, etc.,It now says Blu ray Disc..still pretty corny.Tested out a blu ray from blockbuster(The Soloist)..it attempted to load then gets to the Paramount intro and then about 13-14 seconds goes by and ..low n behold..NOTHING.It freezes and you have to basically shut it down and try again.I've only tried this twice so far(the first time it froze at 14 seconds, the next 13?)..I dunno,I dont get it! Why even release such a giant peice of crap player!!?? I was REALLY hoping this "update" would solve a number of this players issues..I'm pretty sure it hasn't.Haunting In Connecticut would freeze during the load screen(a red flashing house) and that was a pain too!..that was before this update though,STILL bet it won't work though! As everyone else has stated, DO NOT BUY THIS PEICE! SHAME on memorex!!I jumped the gun when I bought this about 8 months ago or so..aaaand it sucks.

Same problem here with that player. I updated the firmware back in Jan and had no problems till Haunting in Conneticut. That little red house just set there flashing. I found the July firmware and istalled it and finally got it to play. Workded fine for a week or tow, then rented the Soloist. Get the Paramount screen, and it locks up at 13 sec. Tried every button, on/off, open/close, same problem every time. Contacted Memorex with no answer of course. POS, stay away!!
