Default Blu-ray player that plays VCD

Hello. I'm looking for a blu-ray player for my brother. He has a collection of VCDs (yeah I know ) that he'd like to play in it. I have the Oppo bdp-83 and it does play it, but he's looking for something that he can get for under $200.
Does anyone know if there's a sub $200 blu-ray player that can do VCDs? I'd like to get the Sony BDP-S360 or Panasonic BD60, but unsure if it can play VCDs. Thanks.

I don't think there are any players currently on the market that offer support for MPEG-1 compression. But, I could be wrong. Perhaps you could still dissuade him from holding onto his VCD collection. There really isn't any point to them anymore, as the quality on a big screen is vastly inferior to DVD not to mention Blu-ray. But, it's merely a suggestion.

Yea I know..but the problem is that some of the titles are rare foreign films thats only available on VCDs. I mean he could always get a cheap $30 VCD player seperately, but was just wondering if he can save space by getting an all-in-one unit.

I just don't think that such a unit currently exists, and I don't believe that any manufacturer will include it in the future either. There is really no market for VCD's anymore with the advent of the last to digital disc formats. He'll probably have to get a serparate DVD player that supports VCD's.

No problem. Sorry about not being able to give you a better news about this, as I know that simpler is usually better. Like most people, I also like having as few devices around my TV as possible. Sometimes that's just not possible.
