United Kingdom Perfect Friday

Perfect Friday Blu-ray REVIEW/PRE-ORDER

NEWS
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=10599

Quote:
British distributors NetworkDVD have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray director Peter Hall's Perfect Friday (1970), starring Ursula Andress, Stanley Baker, and David Warner. The preliminary release date set by the distributors is May 20th.

Directed by Sir Peter Hall and featuring cool tunes by Johnny Dankworth, this sexy, mischievous early '70s crime caper stars the always-watchable Stanley Baker as a bank manager who teams up with a glamorous, aristocratic couple (David Warner and Ursula Andress) to pull off the ultimate inside job. Perfect Friday is featured here in a brand-new transfer from original film elements in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

Lord Nicholas Dorset and his beautiful wife Britt live entirely beyond their means, while their timid bank manager Mr Graham has long envied his customers' wealth. Having devised an apparently foolproof plan to rob his own bank, Mr Graham decides that Nicholas and Britt's desperate financial situation makes them his ideal accomplices…

"Here’s some news that’s sure to delight film fans. Whilst carrying out the new HD transfer for Perfect Friday an alternate soundtrack featuring different music scoring was discovered. This alternate soundtrack was transferred and both versions will be available on the forthcoming Blu-ray release."

I'd pre-order the cheaper one if I were you and hope you get the BD + DVD release for £7.50.

Yeah, I did that, and the amazon confirmation says it's the DF release, so fingers crossed! Interestingly they're showing the more expensive one as an 18 certificate, but BBFC have the film as 12...

Has any new info surfaced on the 2 Amazon listings?
It's odd to have such price differences between both. I have the cheaper one pre-ordered, and just want to be sure I won't be missing anything...

It looks like they have someone there at Amazon that made a number of errors. There were actually three different pre-orders.

Seems they've removed the £7.25 one now. I assume they'll cancel my pre-order...

Curiously, this Blu-ray/DVD combo set is supplied in a thin pack DVD case. It’s a long time since I saw the film but time has not been particularly kind to it. By 1970 the “swinging London” elements already seemed out of date and the trendy editing looks overly fussy now. Stanley Baker and David Warner also look uncomfortable in their roles but Ursula Andress is delightful as always. It's not so bad once the actual robbery begins, but it's a long time coming.

What’s interesting about this release is having not only John Dankworth's original light-hearted jazz score but also the alternate unused score - as well as some dialogue differences. The alternate score is completely different in style to Dankworth’s, being a bit like 18th century dance pastiche music which at the end adds Ray Conniff style vocals! Unfortunately no information is given as to who composed this alternate score.

Perfect Friday Blu-ray REVIEW

I enjoyed this film quite a lot. Ursula's outfits are a good enough reason to recommend owning it.

She looks delicious

(More photos in the review).
