Exclamation New Sony CX960 - NOT TO BE FOOLED!

I’m not a fan of DVD-Changers, but this month marks the introduction of Sony’s two new Blu-ray DVD-Changers. The first model, BDP-CX960 is their level entry player. The second one is probably the model most will have their eyes on, the BDP-CX7000ES. What makes these players exciting is the capacity of 400 discs! Also being added to both players are full HD output, USB inputs, all the latest in audio codecs, and BD-Live connections. Unfortunately, Sony in their various recent advertisements made a gross error! The company printed (in the Sony Style Web site) that both players had the capability of 7.1 analog playback. This turned out to be a rather amusing sort of mistake, because on the website, in clear view were two comparison photos of both units. While the model CX7000ES clearly showed the 7.1 outputs, the CX960 did not! This prompted me to do a little research on my own. Upon going to various other websites, the question of the 7.1 output for both players was discussed, but no one had any real affirmative answer to say if the recent Sony ad was in fact a mistake. It wasn’t until a good friend of mine, went to a Sony Style Store today, examined the CX960 player and called me back to say that it was all too obvious or simple common sense that the issue of the 7.1 analog had to be a major difference between the players. There are no 7.1 analog outputs on the CX960! One aspect that made this issue all too evident is the difference in price between the players. While the CX960 is listed at a reasonable $800 list pirce, the CX7000ES is at a whopping $1900. Certainly, Sony isn’t going to offer their level entry
DVD-Changer with everything the top-of-the-line model has to offer! It’s only clear to think that the addition of 7.1 analog outputs would only be on the high end player and not the level entry one. It’s simply best when hearing about or reading information on a new item, the best thing is to not rely on what is first printed and simply head out to your local audio/video store for yourself and check it out. My buddy who was interested in the CX960, only because of the price, needed 7.1 analog outputs for his system. This error on Sony’s part should be corrected as soon as possible, to save a lot of people a disappointing trip to the store.
