Default Best Buy's Sunday (July 8) ad

Hey, I just checked Bbuy's site, and their Sunday ad. The ad showed The Last Samurai, V for Vendetta, Phantom of the Opera, Goodfellas, and Troy for $14.99. Does anyone know if this is a BBuy exclusive sale or one ordered by the HD DVD group (probably Bbuy trying to make more shelf space for BD)

Also, in the hi-def player section of the website, I saw something we here will really like: Of the 4 HD DVD players available there (LG combo and 360 add-on included), only the HD-A20 is backordered, the others are readily available (that's funny, I thought Toshiba said that the HD-A2, at $299, was spreading like herpes at a Paris Hilton B-day party). Better for us, of the 6 available BD players (incl. the LG combo and PS3), only those two I mentioned specifically are readily available! The Panny is sold-out online, but available in stores. The BDP-S1 is sold out, and it says probably not available at stores. The Sammy 1200 and BDP-S300 are backordered for 1-2 weeks and available at most stores.

Just a few little tidbits there, and if anyone can find more about that Sunday ad sale, let me know.

Off subject: 300 and PE (finally) on BD are both ranked higher than their HD DVD counterparts. Not that this is really big news, but it's a good way to end your weekend, should put a smile on your face.

One last note: Tomorrow at 8pm, Spielberg on Spielberg on TCM.

No, they've offered $10 instant on many BD's as well, maybe not as many at one time however.

Here's my weekend observations; I was in two seperate Best Buys this weekend and it seems like they've let the Blu-ray and HD-DVD sections run down quite a bit not many titles to choose from the good news is that there was a nice Blu-ray display (one sided anyway) in the middle of the isle (still not many different titles). My guess is sales are overall slow for July in retail generally which is typical and they should be replenishing stock pretty soon since fall is not too far away. Now, for the first time I went to Circuit City that's around 45 mins from the one near me and I was pleasantly suprised, actually shocked to see the extensive BD selection they had, it was all of 16ft (4-4ft sections) and completely filled with every title, I bet they have almost every release. The Best buy has been out of many titles for a while now. It actually looked like the section had just been reset and fully stocked. I know some of you are saying "CC sucks" well, I'm hear to tell ya they'll meet the comps prices just like the BB's and that's the only way I buy anyway; none the less very nice to see such BD support. I'm hoping it might be a new schematic coming down the pipline for all the A or B stores as most of the CC's in my area (Tampa,Clearwater,St. Pete) have been a mess for a while now. Now I have a nice alternative for buying BD's.

Well, I don't have a CC near me since they closed several years ago. They were stupid enough to open across the street from the largest electronics retailer in the area, which by the was doesn't have the greatest BD or HD DVD selection either. But, Best Buy, which I never really thought about really seems to be pushing Blu-ray. They have two HDTVs displaying blu-ray players, but I haven't seen one with an HD DVD player. They do have an additional HDTV with an XBOX 360 but no HD DVD add on. Each of the blu-ray players have a small display of movies also, but near one there is a large rack loaded with blu-ray movies. In the DVD area there are two sections for HD movies, one blu-ray the other HD DVD. Just as a side note, it looks like the HD DVD copies of The Matrix are just collecting dust. It always looks like none have sold.

There is a Suncoast Motion Picture Co at a nearby mall that has both, but I have never really looked at their selections since they typically sell everything at retail value or maybe just a buck or two under.
