Hi again
I'm in the process of putting together my HT (nothing big, just enough to enjoy movies at home) I have a 52 LCD SHARP TV with ... SONY Blueray & Illico (CABLE) & a receiver I dont know much about wiring and stuff and would like to save a few 100$ by setting up everything myself. I did talk to some people at work and 2 options keep coming up... I would like more opinions please.... 1st ... HDMI the Blue Ray Player / Illico into the receiver... and HDMI the receiver in the TV? 2nd ... HMDI the Blue Ray Player / Illico into the TV ... and HDMI the TV to the receiver? - Whats the difference between these 2 setups? - Is it as easy as that? I mean 3 HDMI cables ... everything is hooked up and will work fine? Thanks for your help. Also, if anyone has good web sites to read and to learn about this kind of stuff I would appreciate links Dan |

Hello there or myself...Im Dan as well. ok.....alright..
Hook up all your HDMI video components to your A/V receiver. Assuming that your receiver and all the other components have HDMI in/outputs. From your receiver youll be hooking up just a single HDMI to your TV. Make sure all your HDMI cables are 1.3 version. Im sure you know how to hook up your speakers and use a RCA audio cable to hook up your sub from your sub output of your receiver. Set your sub in a corner for better response. Once all set you need to make sure your video components are set up to "Dolby Digital/ Bitstream" in the audio menu options. Otherwise youll just get PCM 2.0. Youll also need to assign your digital audio on your receiver menu/settings. Whatever component is connected to like HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 is assign to that input. Cable=Cable and DVD=DVD. You could save money by purchasing your wire needs at www.monoprice.com If you like to go a little deeper you could also calibrate your speakers if your receiver allows it. In the end youll probably need a universal remote, Harmony Logitech. Range from $60 to $450. Easy to program..even my kids can do it. Oh and a pack of microwave popcorn to enjoy your movies tonite! ENJOY! ![]() |
