Thumbs up Panasonic TC-P50G15 vs TCP50V10?

Which is better 50" 1080p Plasma, both offer 96hz 24p playback, many similar specs, g15 is slight cheaper than the v10. Which one would you pick?

Sorry to bust your bubble but the TC-P50G15 does not offer 96Hz 24P playback unlike the TC-P50V10.

The TC-P50G15 does have slim design, unlike the TC-P50G10 but it does not have the one-pane glass like the TC-P50V10.

The G15 is sort of a thinner version of the G10.
The V10 is a better model.

I'm trying to find the method to his madness but seem to be failing! At the rate he's posting he's gonna become a Blu-ray Guru by tomorrow and then there will be no saving us!

And any minute I'm gonna get lambasted by a good samaritan for being mean and coming down on mugupo hard though that has not been my intent...well sorta

Default Calibrating Panasonic TC-P50G15

Does anybody have this model? I have found many configurations for the G10 but nothing yet on this new model. I bought it a week ago and have had trouble calibrating it or tweaking it. I have found THX setting to be too dark, vivid too bright. Standard is okay, but I am having difficult making peace with any set of settings.

Please help if you can?

I would recommend watching it in THX through the first 100-200 hours. You want a darker setting during break in, as this is when the set is most sensitive to IR. After that, set it to torch mode if you want.

Also, the look changes after break in. Another reason to wait. There are solid-color images (a set of 20) that are available on avforums...people are using these to break their displays in. You can throw them on a SD card & run them overnight. This is what I did with my 800, and what I plan to do with my V10 when it gets here. Figure 8-10 hours a day added to normal viewing, should be fully broken in by two weeks. Some guys actually run them solid for a week or so.

Go there & search for break-in DVD. You don't have to buy the DVD...you'll find a link to the zip file that contains the images.

Forgot to mention - after that, maybe pick up the HD DVE calibration disc on blu-ray and run through it (if you don't want to spend $300-$400 for an ISF-certified tech to calibrate your set, which is preferred).

The disc is nice because it teaches you about all of your settings as you go, and shows you exactly what effect each one can have. Also, once you are done & have everything set to what it 'should' be, it's not such a big deal to try to tweak the settings further...if you bring it out too far, just run thru the disc again.

I have read up on the break-in extensively and have actually used the "Color Break-in" disc. I have run it probably 12 hours a day for the past seven days. WHen I have watched actual programming I lifted the brightness and then dropped it during non-viewing hours and over-night. I just added the DVE to my Netflix que. I just keep going back and fourth with the contrast and brightness and the warm/cool settings and just can't decide what I like best. It is driving me nuts. I'm hoping to find someone who has the the same set who has had it calibrated already and is willing to share the results.

Warm 2 is closest to 6500K, if that matters to you, and you want the most "natural" looking colors. The DVE disc should help in regards to settling on some of the picture settings.

I personally have done no break-in and really haven't gotten any IR to speak of. A couple times after turning off the PS3 I can see partial images of the wallpaper, but that goes away instantly with either a new channel or the whitewash.

I have a 50G10, and everything I have read shows that the G15 uses the same panel. I've been using CNET's settings, and have tried some I found over at AVS and TweakTV. Overall, I prefer CNET's thus far. I should be getting the Spears and Munsil disk in today and will try it.

The one thing I have been unhappy with is the banding and I fully think it's because my set isn't quite calibrated properly. Hence why I'm buying that disc. Anyway, I'll post what I come up with, but personally I don't think it's necessary to break in a set. Yes, some change may come in as the set is used, but if I find it to be an issue I'll just pull out the disk again.
